speed signal wire

Featured Replies

does anyone know if the speed signal wire is on the iso block? as i'm fitting sat nav in my car.

Wouldn't the system use the GPS to know how fast you were travelling?

unfortunately not, the system is couple of years old, it needs the speed pulse to be more accurate.

When asked the garage to fit my sat-nav (Becker DTM) into my new Octy 2, they said that the GALA lead was part of the standard wiring block. And sure enough, it does send the signal to the head unit.

As to why you woud need it, well yes, the gps does use the satellite signals to figure out where you are and how fast you're going. But when you're out of sight of the satellites, for example in a tunnel, the sat-nav uses the gala signal to work out how far you have travelled (and the gyroscope to figure out when you turn).

You didn't ask, but as far as I can figure, the reverse signal is not in the block, so you probably won't get that. But then I suppose you don't plan on driving that far in reverse anyway. And it won't stop the sat-nav working.
