Glass in centre of tyre 20 mm tear is this repairable

Featured Replies

Hello first post so go easy.

Wife was driving the Octavia vrs this morning and less than 200 metres from home felt the steering was heavy so pulled over to investigate .

Saw that the near side front was flat ,couldn't leave the car where she had stopped so drove another 500 metres to a safer place.

The AA came and changed the tyre ,I've come home from work to check out the damage .

My question is the glass was in the dead centre of the tyre in the groove of the tread , the tyre looks ok the wife didn't cattle the tyre luckily while driving it flat ,the tear was 20-25 mm wide left to right and the tyre is a Goodyear efficient grip 225/40/18 is this repairable as not a straight forward nail or screw hole ?

No the only ones that can be repaired are round ones from a nail/screw etc. that can be plugged.

Unfortunately that was not the news I was hoping for as the tyre is less than 8 months old with only 3000 miles and lots of tread depth

Looks like a new one is on the horizon.

Will have to rag the new one to get my money's worth .

Just been to the tyre fitters to see if the tear was repairable ,the fitter checked the tyre and condemned it for the bin without even looking for the glass tear in the tyre ,he showed me the damage on the inside of the tyre where the wife had drove it too far with the puncture

So with two alloy curbings and a puncture in a year the wife has cost me 250 quid in repairs , if I keep the car 10 years that's around £2500 so in conclusion the outcome of all this is don't let her indoors drive your pride and joy.
