Coolant Question

Featured Replies

Hiya all,

A thread recently talked about using G12+ coolant iirc specifically for the 1.4 8v. Can i get this from any autostore, or is it just Skoda dealers ?

My low level coolant warning light has come on again, and I brought some coolant a while ago to top up, but this was just a bottle I brought from Halfords, not the 'pink one'.

I cant get to a skoda dealer at the moment, so just wanted to know if I can get it from anywhere else (even if VW garages will stock it, as there is one near work).

Not too worried about having to top it up, as it tends to need topping up every 5 months or so, and the temperature always stays at the middle of the gauge (unless someone wants to worry me that impending head gasket failure is due !).

My car is a 2000 1.4 8v with 57K on it.

Cheers.

just looked at my bottle and it has vw skoda seat and audi on the top 1.5 litres so you will definatly find it at the vw dealer , think mine was

just Skoda, VW dealers

and seat and audi

If you loosing coolant have a look at the rad fan switch in the n/s corner of the rad. Usually leaks. Check the head gasket down the front. On the corner should have the word TEMAC, thats the modded gasket.

Thanks all. Lummox, I checked the head gasket after you mentioned it in a previous thread and couldnt find the word TEMAC. I presume this is on a 'tab' that sticks out on the gasket between the head and the block ? Is it always on the RHS or LHS ? Is it a particular colour or material ?

I'll have another look at the weekend in the light. If it isnt there, should it be replaced, or does that open up a can of worms ?

Again thanks all.

RBW.
