Number plates!

Featured Replies

Rear number plate fell off whilst driving. What does everyone use to fix them in place with out drilling and screwing them on?

That's pretty much the same as what I used. When I put it on a few days ago it was on solid. Then washed the car yesterday and been for a drive today and it fell off

Wife even put some tape on my arm and it pulled all the hair off my arm

Did you clean the surface and dry it before taping the plates on

How I usually would do it is to cut 4 slightly smaller then plate vertical strips stick then on plate

Then stick plate onto car and apply force all around for about 30 seconds

Tape is good but not as good as screws. Hot days, freezing nights, jet washes and monkeys at drive-through zoo's will soon pull them free.

There are pre-drilled holes front and rear so screws should be OK, or do you prefer the clean look (no screw heads)?

Ever Build Power Grip Mammoth Tape I assure you they won't fall off with this stuff, I put my pressed plates on with it and they havnt budged.

Halfords sell padded double sided strips designed for the job

They work very well

I have mine in Vrs number plate surrounds just clip in but holder has to screwed on no holes in the plate thou.

Because they're private plates and I wanted a clean look I used the halfords number plate pad to start with which lasted pretty much 2 years until a friend slammed my boot so it it fell off. Then used the sticky tape similar to the black roll. Just ordered some pressed plates for front and rear, taking no chances with them and I'm going to screw them on using the plastic nuts and bolts rather then the screws with the little caps on

I wouldnt screw pressed plates on mate will look naff. Honest try the tape i put the link up to will look much cleaner

I really don't want to screw them on because I want the clean look and after paying 20 quid for the pair I want them to look good. Is there any tips for fitting them if using the tape?

Make sure the paintwork behind the plate and the plate itself is very very clean and grease free

A light spray of All Purpose Cleaner followed a wipe with either IPA, Meths or Panel Wipe will ensure this

What about getting some number plate holders for the metal plates?

I then used the screw holes and foam tape (to stop it rattling against the tailgate).

What plate holders have you got on yours as I still want a clean look. Has anyone else used the tape from tool station - ever build power grip mammoth?

You could use 'No More Nails' on a Roll

Thats very strong

Surrounds look very good and will meet your requirements better
