distorting sound

Featured Replies

On Thursday I fitted a new soundcard in my pc ( its sound blaster live 24 bit 7.1 one ). I also bought & fited a new speaker set, a 5.1 surround with a amp, it was all pc compatible, wired up fine & the sound is great, but I keep getting bad interference on the sound, really buzzy like the speakers are gone, then it goes back fine. i don't even need to be near the pc for it to alter . the wire are all firmly in ( unless its the ones that clip into the speakers ), the sound distorts through all of the speakers to. it is all set up for 5.1 sound. the speaker check is fine, all speakers work in turn. It happens on both cd, media player & online streaming, can go a hourish without happening again, or can be only a few mins then fine for ages. Anybody any ideas on what the problems can be. I have done the full check of the soundcard & that all comes back fine.If I pause the sound through the pc the sounds stops, both the interference & the normal sound.

Has No-body ever had this fault then ,. Just concerned incase I need to take either one back. I didn't know if anything in the pc could cause interference, or if anyone knew of a fault with the card, or anything else to try. Next option is to try the speakers all on the tv/ dvd player.

Hi

In truth, I haven't a clue about these things. My only suggestion would be to try to eliminate any localised interference - in other words, switch everything else off that's running off the ringmain, e.g. TV, microwave, fridge/freezer (momentarily!) etc. Then try it again. Also, try it in another socket outlet on a different ring if you can.

You don't say if this replaces an old soundcard which worked, or you've not had one before?

Maybe check the routing of the audio lead from the soundcard to the back of the CD/DVD drive (inside the PC). Mine was placed close to the CPU cooling fan and it picked up interference when the fan speed increased to max. Moved it away and the noise went.
