Is it possible to adjust the light sensor?

Featured Replies

I recently replaced the light switch in my car with one with automatic lights (tunnel lights). For some reason it worked without any coding in VCDS. Since my car is a pre-FL, the only thing it does is to turn on and off the instrument lights.

The car is parked in a garage, so the instrument lights will be on when I start. Once I drive out of the garage, the lights turn off (in daylight). On my way to work, I have to drive through two tunnels. Once inside the tunnel, the lights come on again, but the problem is when I exit the first tunnel. The lights continue to stay on, and it is the same amount of daylight outside. After that, they will stay on for the rest of the trip.

So I'm wondering if there is a setting in VCDS where I can change how much light it needs be outside before turning the instrument lights off. Also, is it possible to use the fog lights as DRLs (yes, it's legal in Norway)?

The Scandinavian drl setting on my prefl has a setting to use fog lights instead of headlights. With the auto lights this means in normal daylight the sidelights and fog lights are on but when it gets dark the fogs turn off and the headlights come on.

Pretty sure there is also an adaptation somewhere for the sensitivity of the light sensor.

Asked this question years ago on my pre-fl, and there is an adjustment but it's about the same difference between looking at 1000 matches and 1001 matches, it's tiny and makes virtually no difference.

Unless someone has worked out another way that several others failed to before?

The only way I've found is by using my Polar FIS+ through maxidot.

It offers the ability to choose an exact percentage of sensitivity and it really does make a difference.

This crops up across all the Skoda model threads on a fairly regular basis, the auto lights like to come on but aren't so keen to turn off.

Once my auto lights turn on the only thing that turns them off is a prolonged stint of driving at a very slow speed, manually turning them off or switching off the engine.

Remember it isn't just the light sensor that influences when the lights come on, the wipers, vehicle speed etc. all influence the activation of the lights.

I drove through a couple of tunnels joining the M62 last week. After each tunnel the lights switched off pretty much straight away.

So it is possible but only if you can adjust the sensitivity somehow. Not sure how this would be done with VCDS as the only option I've ever seen only allows a certain adjustment.

Thanks for the replies. I don't have Maxi dot, so Polar FIS+ is not an option for me. I guess I got to see what magic that can be done with VCDS. But it's not the biggest problem though, would have been worse the other way around.

What's this polar fis thing as it's the first I've heard about it and I'd very much like to adjust mine down if possible? Yes, I have maxidot. :)

Blackspaven this should answer your question.

It's a little box that plugs between the CAN gateway and the car.

The only thing that may put you off is the cost. I got mine for 220 euros.

For me the other advantages were that in a pre-FL car it allows the PDC to display on the Columbus screen once again as well as the climatronic settings.

And also many diagnostic settings on the go. Some not even do-able with VCDS like a specific rain sensitivity, light sensitivity and comfort indicator flashes between 1 and 10.

Mine is slightly different to the above video. It's funny how his shows up as phone.

Mine shows as a separate option to the phone:

Ooh, yeah. Nice, but I think I'll save my cash for the sake of turning the  light off!! :D

THanks for the info though.
