problem after disc change

Featured Replies

hi all

today i changed the discs and pads on my octavia 1.8t. i made sure everything was wire brushed and cleaned etc inc the hub where the disc sits.. upon driving the car all is well untill about 25mph when the abs comes on making a noise like something is dragging along underneath  along with the warning triangle light on the dash..upon slowing down they both stop.the discs and pads are identical  to those removed and i cleaned the discs of the protective oil coating, i am flummuxed.i pushed the pistons in with a brake piston winder tool.the pedal operates as it should and using the brakes up to 25mph is fine in fact they still work fine when the abs is activated at 25mph or above.any ideas guys

I'm not dead sure about this, but could the air gaps between the ABS rotors and stators be different side to side?

Diagnostic will pin it down. Probably disturbed one of the ABS sensors.

hi all

i havent fixed it yet as i havent had time today but i think i know what it is...i just happened to walk in front of the car today and noticed that the d/s wheel was pointing straight ahead while the n/s wheel is sticking out at the 11 oclock position and the steering wheel is off centre quite a bit as well so remembering that i had quite a struggle changing the n/s lower arm and using a bit of elbow power to get it in i must somehow have knocked the steering alignment out quite a bit, not sure how as i  didnt remove the track rods but having read similar posts on the web it would seem that with the wheel  out of alignment  so much it has confused the esp which on the 4x4 incorporates the traction  control system, and abs resulting in the odd events described.i will be having the tracking done tomorrow and fingers crossed this will do it.i have checked and double checked everything i did yesterday and everything is 100% correct except the wheel sticking out and steering wheel off centre. thanks for the replies and i will keep you guys posted.

Colour me confused!! Your OP talks about a brake disc change, and now you're talking about changing a wishbone and not checking the tracking afterwards. Is a full history to much to ask for when people are looking for diagnostics?
