Diesel Fuel Filter Change

Featured Replies

I wish to change the fuel filter (at 60,000 km on a 2.0 TDI Superb II). I read somewhere that the "rail injectors and pressure pumps are not tolerant of air". To avoid potential damage, the "electric fuel pump should be run for 60 seconds using VCDS software".  Apparently"one can also manually jump the pumps to run them and prime the fuel system".  Can anyone give me advise and/or instructions regarding these steps (i.e. priming to get air out) for a diesel fuel filter replacement?

Thanks.

I always use the VCDS on my own, make things an awful lot cleaner and easier.  If you're stuck, you can fill up the diesel filter unit with diesel before you put the top back on and take it for a good run after.  Just ensure that the seal isn't leaking as it has a history of dripping down onto the auxiliary belt which disintegrates and wraps itself around the timing belt.  Not fun when that happens!

If you just keep turning the ignition off/on (without starting the engine) will the fuel pump come on each time and prime the system?

I was always under the impression that was the case.
