Sticky EGR valve?

Featured Replies

Title should be sticky actuator, sorry about that

Went to Bristol today down the M32 from the M4, at 3000RPM the car struggled to accelerate beyond that in 5th.

Parked and went to the museum with this on my mind.

Came out of the multistorey and returned on the M32 and found I was able to accelerate easily over 3k in 2nd and 3rd, could not tell about 4th or 5th due to traffic.

Done a search on here and the remedy seems to be the removal of the pipe on the underside of the EGR valve and to squirt some Mr Muscle oven cleaner into the actuator to remove the build up of carbon and muck and at the same time to push down on the actuator linkage regularly.

Only had the car 3 weeks and it maybe it was sold for this reason.

The stealer did drive it in lowish gears and high revs when he picked me up in it so it makes me wonder if he put some turbo cleaner in the diesel which has now worn off?

I read the thread on here: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/243533-the-mr-muscle-vnt-turbo-treatment-thought-we-needed-a-guide-of-sorts/?hl=%20turbo%20%20vnt

Car is 110BHP ASV with 147k. MPG is 44.

So to summarise, the engine would with difficulty accelerate beyond 3k in 5th, following this I did drive it at high revs in lower gears and it seemed ok.

Fault code: 17965 Charge pressure control positive deviation.
