2.0 140 DSG

Featured Replies

Hi superb gang,

Time has come for another new taxi, been using a mates octy 2.0 140 DSG OCTY, 58 plate.

Gearbox has 1st gear & reverse problems, but still drives, just abit shudders slightly.

So I'm 6ft7, always wanted another superb since my very first mk1 Classic, they are perfect cars for the job, tons of leg room, even behind me.

Basically looking for reviews on the DSG box on 63 plates onwards, so it's the newer shape of the Mk2 superbs im looking at, dunno if that's the same box that's in the old 58 Octavia's? The boxes worry me, I do 50k a year and I've heard some horror stories regarding huge repairs on boxes, 2/3grand repairs etc?

My mate has 2, the octy im driving that's currently only done 137k & his passat and that's done 90k, no problems with them other that my 1st n reverse shudder & I'm actually surprised as he's only actually just done a DSG Service on them since buying them both. Very lucky I say.

So Yeh looking for reviews, are they 6sp or 7sp boxes on the newer superbs?

  • I've a 64 plate 140hp DSG.
  • It's a 6 speed box and extremely smooth.
  • Cannot comment regarding longevity as I've only clocked up 2600 miles.
  • Would it be possible for you to take out extended warranty at time of purchase to ease your concerns?

That will be the clutch pack causing the shudders, @ 90K+ they are basically shot, a clue with them is when cold if you open the bonnet you should be able to hear a metallic grinding or what sounds like a pebble going round in a washing machine, hth.

Not sure what you want to spend but there is a nice F/L SE DSG in Silver at Meadens in Southampton, £15495, 14 plate 15000 miles.

Yeh around £15k is my budget, maybe go £16 for the right car. Initially wanted a Elegance but too pricy & most punters wouldn't appreciate it.

Just found this

Just the DSG that worries me, I wanna be keeping the car min of 5 years, would be serviced every 10k miles with correct oil & the DSG every 40k.

That one looks reasonable, it will need a DSG service £180 in 5000 miles though,

The DSG itself is pretty good, they do however knacker the flywheel at anything between 60-100k I had the Passat version and @ 72k it was starting to give tell tales where I'd get a heavy thud when stopping quickly like something was running on out past the front of the car, this will generally cost around £700 to sort at an indy, don't ask about VAG prices it's near double that, my mate had his Octavia one done at about 120k but I don't know how long it had been playing up for though, he didn't pick a VAG car to replace it and stated to me he likes the conventional auto box more than the DSG,

If you do buy it get new engine oil and filter every 10k, they say LL oil is good for 20k but it isn't it's a fleet thing so the fleet doesn't get humped for a service, the Passat had been on LL oil and I had a whistleing turbo by the time it hit 40k so draw your own conclusions to that, you'll need 507 oil for it as it's a dpf car.

Fuel wise you'll see VAG quote 44 mpg urban, you'll be lucky to see 35mpg in real use so bear that in mind also if you do lots of street work rather than long haul, long haul I would imagine will return a low 50mpg, the motoring regulator reckons to knock 22% off what the maker claims which works for me as I've an Insignia that's quoted as 36 urban, returns 29 most of the time, hth.
