Tuning possibilities

Featured Replies

Been searching and keep reading about larger intake, PD 160? This is a direct fit right? Where would one be sourced and how much. Does it then need a re-map? Any body know anything about tunnit chips seen these in a couple of mags, and can a chip be used that can be removed to avoid any warranty issues??

Hi Sam

The PD 160 Air intake is just a swap with your old one.

Not a big job and around

Sam, off subject question...

Sam Tan means Fireman Sam in welsh doesn't it???

Back on subject...

There are quite a few simple and cheap mods for the furby that will improve things. I have a CC remap and am very happy... you may also find yourself needing lowered suspension too... beware of the bank balance!!! :o

By the way, welcome to Briskoda!

I think its a good idea to do all your engine modifications first, then take it to get a phase 2 remap which is based on the modifications you have undertaken and taylored to your driving style and your engine:

PD160 Intake

Green Filter

Sports/tuned exhaust

Front mounted intercooler (FMIC)

Then let all that settle down, run the car in a bit and then get it remapped.

Seems to me maybe a good way to get the best results.

Just speak to the dealer where you get it serviced regarding the warantee issues and see what they say some dealer don't mind some do. They will be happy to explain all. Oh yeah and just make sure your insured wouldn't want to end up with any issues with your insurance should the worst happen.

Have fun.

Then also to improve handling, lower it, either springs, or springs and coilovers/dampers or similar products, ebach do a good set up, maybe a seat strut brace or 4 to tighten up the car, 17" wheels and lower profile tyre which help a bit, maybe an anti roll bar or 2.

Of course not forgetting all the exterior mods, badging, lights, tinted windows, silver vision bulbs to replace the orange ones, front grills, rubbing strips, of course all this is down to your personal taste.

Then interior stuff; leather interior, ice - ooo, lets not go there for now but that could be anything you choose.

After spending between

Am I missing something here?

If the entrance to the PD160 airbox is the same size as the PD100, how can the car be getting more air with this mod?

There will be a restriction which will negate any benefits?

Sam Tan indeed means that, as I get called it by every child I see when Im at work!!

Cheers for the replys guys/girls. Aftre a 280 brake scoob the fabia is a great car but lacking a bit of oompph(?) . Dont really want to go all out yet as I would prefer to enjoy the benefits of a new car, but a cheeky little boost wouldnt go amiss!

One thing i have noticed is the short amount of time it takes for the wheels to get crappy and how bloody hard it is to clean them. Joys of motoring.

The PD 160 intake is bigger that the the standard one do a search and youll see it...

I'm aware that the bore of the intake is bigger, it's obvious from the photos.

However where the intake goes into the airbox the PD160 intake is the same size as a PD100.

The entrance on the 160 pipe is unrestricted where as the OE on the Furbie vRS is Restricted.......ie:..Half of it is blocked off

I think what he's saying is that even though you have the capability of getting more air in (through a wider scoop), the diameter of the air box remains unchanged and this is still a bottleneck in getting air into the air box!

Ok Chris........I understand what you are saying But if the entrance and pipe are bigger more air must go into the airbox even though the entrance to the air box is the same.....................Does that make sence

It basically means the car is sucking in air through a fatter straw than before. You won't notice gains on a standard 130 PD (I tried it with my old Ibiza) but you may get a few extra bhp with a re-mapped engine that needs to suck more air more quickly when driven hard, plus it will have had the fuelling increased over stock too. I suspect it may have been put on the PD160 more as an emissions modification than a performance one. My reasoning being that if it can get a bit more air in a bit more quickly on a car using more fuel it will smoke less - and as the PD160 has a nice bling exhaust trim they don't want it getting sooted up too quickly.

So fitting a PD160 intake to a PD100 fitted with a resistor type tuning box will lessen the car's tendancy to smoke, rather than add bhp?
