APX engine versus AUQ engine

Featured Replies

When I had my Vrs tuned at R-Tech it was pointed out to me that my car has an APX engine in it not the usual AUQ

This has got me thinking what the differences are if any?

Any help as always much appreciated :)

Think its a replacement engine from a 225bhp car (TT, Seat etc) - Skodas only got the "lower" 180bhp

Yeh apx was a 225bhp lump but if its just the block and head and the rest of your hardware is AUQ then i imagine it'll only of run 180bhp still.

It ran 190bhp prior to mapping probably just due to all the mods fitted ready for stage 2. Got stacks and stacks of receipts but nothing regarding any sort of head of block change so am a little confused about why I have one :P just wondered if there's much differences in the engines

Interesting. No idea why you'd have one but but of a lucky break if you want to tune it. BAM is generally considered the one to have as it's the 225 lump as already mentioned. APX is really just an earlier version of the BAM and was in early TT's. They're pretty similar just BAM had a different lambda setup for emissions. Both have 20mm wrist pins rather than the 19mm in the AUQ so nice strong bottom end that should go to 300bhp+ before you get problems.

BAM didn't have SAI I don't think but the APX did.

Would have been a K04 engine originally as well so as mentioned if it's running K03S hardware then it'll be down on power (basically not too diff to an AUQ) but is sitting up and begging for a bigger turbo to go in [emoji2]

^^^Get on it!

The whole bam is stronger etc is all rubbish

Same as 20mm wrist pins being stronger blah blah

Never seen a small end wrist pin failure on 19mm or 20mm

The failures have always been the rod shaft

I have seen more failed bam blocks than any other

Thanks for the info guys. Bigger turbo is certainly an idea I keep toying with :) happy with stage 2 at the mo but we all know what it's like you just keep wanting more lol
