I have been checking out the electric windows on my fathers 57 1.4tdi Fabia which have recently stopped working. The wiring appears ok so I decided to swop the motor from my window to see if it was that but despite being the same car and year the motors are different. His wiring clips in from the underside whilst mine goes in at the top despite being located in the same direction. Any comments on this, one is an earlier type than the other but both have the same part no  6Y1959801

You say windows, is that all of them that have stopped working? With them all not working at once I would imagine the mechanism and motors will be perfectly fine but I would be pulling more towards the wiring side of things or fuse box. Have you checked with the simple things first like fuses?

Yes all fuses are fine, and having taken the door card off both power wires to drivers motor / control unit had power. My drivers motor plugs in from the top whilst my dads car has the plug underside. Have swopped switches and both are fine just wondering if one the one with the plug underneath is an earlier motor and the plug on top is later and hope they are compatable. Hopefully will have time to swop over and see what happens over the weekend. Electric windows appear to be a regular issue on these.
