Keeping the Scout .....

Featured Replies

Well it has finally come to crunch time .... My Scout will be 5 years old in August this year ... I've just come within a nats ... of buying a Superb Outdoor...

BUT

Why ? I've been offered 10k against the outdoor and will then have 13k to put towards the Superb ... Another 3 years of dept...

So.. I've decided to keep it until the bitter end... It's only done 28k miles so maybe good for another 5-6 years at least. Plenty of time to save up for a Superb 3 or maybe 4 :-)

After 4 1/2 years and nearly 65k, I've come to the same conclusion. The fact is, I truthfully haven't seen another car that has made me think, "I wish I was driving that instead of this."

I'm swithering whether to get the seats reupholstered in leather, or leave as is. The foambase is beginning to collapse on the drivers seat, again. Apart from that it has been the best car I have owned.

Further down the line , I have a diesel Scout on an 08 plate with 93k . It now owes me nothing after 7 years with only two faults during that period

. I have read the horror stories , but am reminded that I foolishly gave my 7 year old mk1 4x4 combi to my son who kept it in a frozen Europe for two further years up to 140k and nothing went wrong with it . Along with other contributors I have the same dilemma ... what else is there to consider replacing it with , for the money .

I will accept the odd £1k bill in the future and still think that I have a great , reliable and unique car .

Another older Scout owner here, an 08 with 50,000 miles on it.

A few little niggles over the recent years but nothing to lose sleep over (Alloy wheels corroded and refurbed, Teeves ABS issue fixed under warranty, broken rear electric window, duff gas pressure sensor, rear bump stops and not a lot else).

Ours will be with us until it dies.

The modern way these days to buy cars seem to be PCP's. There are some cracking deals on brand new MkIII Scout's. Less than £2K down and less than £150/month over two years.

Still more expensive than our Scout which owes us nothing, but the days of picking up a cheap year old Skoda for £14K are over. I won't be paying close to £30K for a new car.

Just bought a 58 plate scout as company for the vRS. Always liked the mk11 scout and hoping for a few years good service out of it. Have a few at work - great cars.
