Dodgy Remap?

Featured Replies

Ok...so I bought my L&K....knowing that it had a remap and that the MAF was possibly dodgy...apparently the engine started running rough at high revs a couple of weeks after having the remap and disconnecting the MAF stopped the rough running.

So..the MAF was replaced and it ran fine for a couple of weeks....and now the problem has reoccurred.

The only problem with the vehicle is a back box blow which shouldn't effect anything....and I'm about to disconnect the MAF to see if it stops the rough running.

I have also noticed at tick over the revs are a little lumpy....can't feel it but can see it on the Tacho....and there is a faint whiff of petrol whilst sat at the lights on tick over or when reversing onto my drive.

Anybody come across this kind of problem before and know of any quick fixes or have a clue as to what the issue may be? I can't see that a remap would cause my vehicle to start eating MAF's.

There is a chance that I may be able to take it back to where it was remapped and have it looked at...but that's a long drive to Cornwall.

Any ideas folks?

Was the MAF aftermarket or OEM, a lot of aftermarket ones are not worth getting as they are of variable quality.

Lumpy idle and rough running could well be an unmetred airflow issue (MAF or pipework), as it's misfiring there could be unburnt fuel which would account for the petrol smell.

Has it thrown any codes? Be well worth a scan. Dodgy remap? Hmm could cause all kinds of issues I guess but most likely would be limp mode. Probably try scan first then explore that route.

Also, is there an induction kit on there by any chance?

If the car doesn't run right with a known good MAF plugged in, but runs ok with no MAF, a dodgy cam position sensor would be my prime suspect.

What temperature does the gauge indicate?, steady 90 degrees or does it fluctuate?

Haven't had a chance to have it scanned yet. Luckily my Father in law runs the local technical college motor vehicle department so have access to all the latest diagnostics equipment and will get it scanned some time this week. Temperature is a steady 90 degrees KentPhil1.

Would a dodgy cam position sensor necessarily throw up a code Paul dazzle?

No induction kit yellow car.....it's just standard.

Unsure about the MAF mannyo....it was provided with the car and not fitted by me.

If I adjust my revs, pressure on the throttle I can control the lumpy running by adjusting throttle pressure with my foot.

I'm guessing there could be a pipework problem as I can't see that the car would just be 'eating' MAF's.

I'll ge it read and let you guys know the results. Thanks for all your input guys, much appreciated
