1/4 mile times?

Featured Replies

Going to head to Crail next Sunday and thinking about using their drag strip.

Never done it before so don't have a clue what time is good and the best way to get a good start.

So what time should i roughly be aiming for and what top speed should i get at the end? Also what's the best way for the best start?

Decided if it's wet i'm not doing it as i wouldn't get traction untill the 1/4 mile haha.

Floor it and hang on :D

You probably would need to do a few runs, to find out what best works for you and your car,

time and speed not a clue,

Depends what you're going in/on?

11 seconds is good. But might not be obtainable

Yes,you could say your time is car dependant :)

As for tips all I would say is wheel spin kills speed and avoid where possible

So don't sit on the start line banging the rev limiter

Apart from that your gear changes need to be good and as for actual figures you should top 90mph quite easily

Will be in my vRS.

You think it's best to rev it to around 3,000 rpm until the green light? My car has 313lb torque so it always wheel spins so not sure if it's better to just go into 2nd gear almost straight away to reduce this, but don't want to reduce the time too much.

If a stage 2 manages 13.9 I would imagine you'd be high 13s / low 14s?

Maybe short shift into second?

I do on the bike. Cos then i can really open up. First gears tough, front wheel gets abit too lively.

I would have thought 3-4000 revs to start is the sweet spot. It's not something I practise as I think my clutch would punish me for it. You may lose more going for 2nd too early compared to feeding the throttle in with some spin. Can't be too much help I'm afraid but it will be interesting to see how you get on!

Too early in the year to get much traction

How many runs have you got?

Got time to experiment?

The place is open from 10-4 but never been before so not sure how many runs i would get. If it's raining then i'll only be watching so a good chance that will be the case haha.
