Tyres

Hi,

I know the subject of tyres has been done to death but do you need W rated tyres or can you use V rated?

Its just that when you go on most tyre sites & put your reg in, it comes back with W rated tyres.

Could this void insurance?

I'm no tyre expert but that could probably be the most popular tyre rating going, I don't think I've ever seen a Q (99mph) tyre whilst browsing. I'm 99% sure it can't void your insurance.

Have a look here for a breakdown of the letters and speed ratings. http://www.blackcircles.com/general/speedrating

The top speed of the vRS according to the book is 128mph. So any tyre rated H, V, Z, W or Y would be legal as they all exceed the rating.

You'll only get into trouble if you fit a tyre which is rated at less than what the car is capable of. So you couldn't fit a T rated tyre for example because that is only rated to a maximum speed of 118mph.

There's an e-mail from Skoda saying that that in their opinion V-rated tyres are acceptable as long as you match the load rating of the Ws on here someplace.
