Water getting into spare wheel compartment

Featured Replies

Have had water getting in to spare wheel compartment of my Octavia Estate, have resealed rear lights and changed rear screen washer feed tube.

What else can it be, it is worse when raining. Help

There is a rubber grommet right at the bottom, is this sealed correctly?

Also, check the rubber seal down near the boot lid catch.

Is this holding water (give it a squeeze)?

The drain holes can get blocked preventing water from escaping. When you shut the boot it compresses the seal forcing the water out and down into the boot / spare wheel well.

Finally, you've checked the rear lights, but also check the high level brake light above the window.

These can crack, and the washer jet nozzle can be easily knocked or broken when washing the car as it physically protrudes from the light itself.

I've had the problem for some time - water only gets in when parked "tail up".  Tried several "solutions" without success.  Apparently there are rubber vents behind the bumper which may be deformed and allow water in but I don't fancy taking the bumper off to find out.

No problem when parked "tail down", so that's what I do. It's not a cure as such but at least it makes the problem go away.
