Passenger Wiper lifting

Featured Replies

I searched the forums and I can't find an answer to this.

The passenger wiper on my car has lifted away from the windscreen in the centre. When the wiper moves it hits the windscreen again after about 10cms and then rests in a curved position again.

The same thing happened to the drivers side wiper and it meant that the patch right in front of my face didn't get cleaned (really annoying with all the salt on the roads) but that fixed itself at speed and then eventually just went back to normal.

I thought it might be due to old wipers but the replacement just did the same thing again.

The only other guess I have is that the main arm has lost some of its spring tension and isn't being pulled into the windscreen.

Anyone seen it or know what's up?

There could be corrosion on springs that dont allow full contraction and therefore full arm position.

The wiper arm securing nuts could be loose and the arm has worked its way upward on the spline and changed the angle they lay at.

The arms could be bent

Nothing else unless the whole wiper system linkage us shot. Unlikely though

Would have thought tension to/with the wiper arm/s are at fault.

Bending the wiper arm may cure fault but if no real arm tension present it will not cure the problem.

Having changed the wiper blade holder and blades by elimination, pinpoints the problem..
