2011 Octavia vRS TDI CR 170 Remap In Bristol

Featured Replies

Hello all

Looking for some advice on a remap - a popular topic! The car in question is a factory standard black 2011 Skoda Octavia vRS TDI CR 170 Manual with 94k on the clock. Owned from new with mostly motorway miles. Great car that has never missed a beat.

I'm based in Bristol and wondered if any of you have any experience with either South West In Car Tech or Avon Tuning, both remapping specialists in the Bristol area?

They both want £300 for a remap and dyno test, however SWICT are claiming 227bhp from their Stage 1 software from Celtic Tuning retaining the DPF (which frankly seems crazy to me - although the owner there assures me it is within safe limits), and Avon Tuning offer what I believe to be a much more sensible  increase using their Stage 1 software to 205 bhp.

I know from other posts that Shark is clearly the ultimate choice, however the distance is not practical for me and neither is the price (although I'm well aware you get what you pay for).

I await your advice and comments...

Not got a Shark reseller nearby? Shark themselves is too far for me also, but there are a network of resellers who can upload the same map.

Did you go with either yet , I'm interested as I've just bought the same model as you.

I used Avon Tuning to remap and dpf delete my cr170 Superb , they didn't have a dyno at that point though but the difference was considerable they claimed 205-210hp , it certainly felt much stronger and picked up much better in 6th at motorway speeds , was a little better on fuel when cruising as well

My mate bought his Fabia vRS with a South West In Car Tech map in it a couple of years ago.

I test drove it for him and was a nice and smooth map. He has since put around 80k on the clock as he lives in Taunton and drives to Bristol everyday and has had no hint of trouble from it.

He has had to replace the clutch, but I think it was on the original anyway and now has over 160k on the clock.

He has had to put a new 'box in it towards the end of last year, but can't say for sure if that had anything to do with it?

Hope this helps.

I got 12months warranty with mine , so a little hesitant to map just yet . But I would like that extra little bit of power .

Personally, I agree the claims from SWICT seem a little optimistic, and iirc their claims for the Fabia were 130 to 180. (Also claimed was within safe tolerances)

I would personally go elsewhere.

Unit18 are only up the road in Milton Keynes and there are other places in Brum for example.

Personally, I'd travel the distance for a reputable map and enjoy the drive home :D

Had my 1.2 tsi Yeti remapped by Celtic Tuning 3 years ago and am still delighted with the performances. You don't need to take your car to them. They come to you, download your remap from base to their laptop, update your ECU and job done. If for any reason you have to have an official Skoda ECU upgrade (which will override yours) they will come and remap again for only £50

Shark are doing a group buy ATM with a free STS unit, so if your car has a suitable ecu you wouldn't need to travel, plus you can do things like return it to stock and back again when it goes in for a service so the map won't get over written.
