A visit to the forest...

Featured Replies

A couple of days ago my wife and I set off to view a 2014 Superb Elegance 4x4, and what a beauty - complete with "Pan" roof, 5k on the clock and as new...(And what I consider to be very fairly priced)

It was exactly what we wanted (having owned a 170 twin door 4x4 in the past) and a cracking colour....THEN she spotted the Scout demonstrator..!     Hence I'm here and not on the Superb forum!

The right colour but slightly over-priced I thought, that was until the extras came to light.."Pan" roof, heated front screen & jets, up-rated wheels, rear camera, up-rated headlamps, to name just a few...And the 184bhp engine!

So, I'm eagerly waiting for the car to be prepared for handover which should be in about 2 weeks; a very popular garage with a lot of cars ahead of mine awaiting prepping.

So, this being my second Scout I recall some of the tweaks that I will need applying; can any 2014 Scout owner confirm:

(a) The VCDS(?) can select door locking at/around 15 mph?  and single door unlocking on demand from the fob?

(B) The Satnav now will receive on input  7 character UK post codes? (Earlier Skodas that I've owned have had to be "tweaked from the German

      5   character setup)

© This Scout can be fitted with front/rear mud flaps ?

(d) As this veh was registered in Oct 2014 is there a 2015 Satnav update that should be applied?

Finally,

What other VCDS(?) tweaks are recommended by Skoda owners?

Is there any advice from auto-box drivers regarding the 184bhp Scout...It's many many years since I've driven one and that was not in this country....So a Newbie all over again!

As you may guess the test drive was accompanied at my request...and most enjoyable although quite nervy, this car has all the potential to "Go" well!

Any suggestions from fellow owners is most welcome, especially Dog owners because everything in my Mitsubishi will have to go and I have to start looking for boot mats & Dog guards all over again. (I'm not keen on the Skoda ceiling mounted guard)

Regards,

OH!  Before I forget..the Garage?  Meadens in Sway, in the New Forest.  And that 2014 Super Superb is still there! An amazing Company and you can read all the comments in the S.E Garage guide...I agree with all of them 100%

Not bright red is it?

a) Door locking when moving is standard now I think

I believe both auto-locking & one door opening can be configured through the navigation unit options without VCDS.

There is a nice thread here by vPower, AndyVee & others listing all the possible "confirmed working" updates available through VCDS.

B) I think there are still problems with UK postcodes (but i'm not in the UK so cannot confirm)

c) They can be fitted to the standard Octavia so I don't see why the scout would be any different

d) Navigation updates are released every 6month for users to install themselves.
    See here: http://updateportal.skoda-auto.com/

Or there is a nice thread from AndyVee with the direct download links.

The downloads are 8-20Gb depending on which unit you have so its worth asking the dealer to do it if they can.

Good choice with the Octavia. I also looked at the Superb but was swung to the Octavia because its using the latest MQB platform unlike the Superb (I think the new one released in 2015 will move to it though).

This left the Superb laking in some nice features  (like ACC) which were available in the Octavia.

Hi, I'm in similar position having just paid a deposit on a new Scout.  Was very tempted by the advert for the one at Sway but think 150bhp will be enough for me ( & safer for my licence).

The Scout plastic panels mean the mud flaps aren't supposed to fit.  If the new model is the same as my current one (2010 FL), the front mud flaps will screw straight on with a bit of persuasion (warm water or hair dryer to soften them).   The rears need a bit more work, cutting & drilling new holes in the mud flaps. I fitted the fronts as it reduces the amount of mud that gets sprayed up the side of the vehicle from the front wheels when cornering but didn't bother with the rears as the plastic mouldings get the worst of the crud so not really a problem.

Will be at the dealers tomorrow so will try to have a play with the SatNav to see what it does with UK postcodes.  As Gabbo says, should be able to configure door locking from console without VCDS.

Confirm satnav recognises full UK postcodes (only a problem with early Octavia 3) & door lock options can be set from menu on the centre console. Told mud flaps won't fit but that was same with previous model. Have got a pair thrown in with the deal so will have a play & see what can be done.
