Washer jets?

Featured Replies

Noticed yesterday that the passanger side windscreen washer jet doesnt seem to work properly. One jet flys over the car and the other his the screen but its a very week supply of water. I've had a look and nothing seems to be blocking it and i cant see how you might adjust it. Any ideas or will i need a replacement jet unit?

cheers mas

I don't think they're adjustable per se .... have you checked the hoses going to them are both connected correctly? :D

No, but i recon they are as the jet that flys over the car clears it by about 6 foot!

Not familiar with the Furbys washers but if they are anything like the Octy's then you can't adjust them...stick a pin in the jet opening and give it a good poke ....you've probably got a mixture of crud and limescale in the jet nozzle...on the octy they are supposed to spray in a fan pattern across half the screen rather than spraying a thin jet so they don't need adjusting...in the real world they block easily and you either get a dribble or a jet spraying out in a random direction..

'Get a pin and stick it in'

Fan jets are a PITA...on my 3 set now.....2 replaced under warranty. Second set where cleaned by garage....I then had to clean them myselves...in the end I just replaced them...only a couple of quid.

Are they easy to remove and can i get them from a VW dealership? Thanks for the quick responce everyone - much appreciated.

Yeah...easy enough to remove....just carefully lever out with a flat balde screw driver and pull off pipe...making sure to hold onto pipe.

This is for an Octy but if Fabia uses fan jet I guess it wold be pretty much the same.

SHould be able to get them from your local dealer.

They do say that you should only use approved fluid with the fan jets to prevent blocking.

I asked my local dealer about this and the service guy said it's normal wash...and gave me a bottle free.

I'm thinking though blocking is more due to when you the water bottle it down to it's last dregs and you get that froth.....I think this dries up and blocks the jets.

I cleaned a jet and found a white residue hence my above comment.

The normal sort of Halfrauds stuff crystalises (Hence the white residue).

The VAG stuff is cheap enough anyway, about

I ran both VAG screen wash and then Halfords cheapy screen wash (using up old supplies) and then Scania superstrength (don't ask :o ). Never had any probs with the fan jets blocking :D

Stuck a unraveled paper clip in the hole - seems to have made things a little better. Will have to wip-it-off and clean it properly when i get the chance.

As for the screen wash issue - i wouldnt have thought it would make any difference as to what make you use - if you've got bits of muck in your washer bottle sooner or later its going to get sucked up and forced into the little jet washer housing!

My dealer was at pains to point out that I should NEVER use any washer fluid other than VAG cos it clogs the jets. Does he just want the business?

Nope he is correct. As Stu says the VAG stuff has been formulated not to block the fan jet washers. If you have any warranty issues with jets or pipework and there is non gen screenwash in there it probably wont be covered.

Lol - Bit OT but I just spotted this

Starting the TSW Catalunya fund, please donate generously

They are the ones you showed me the other night aren't they, are you going for them?

Wouldnt mind ;)

Still undecided about 16" as im am or trying for 17's

Either way no one has donated yet so maybe a long time.
