Anyone driven the new Twingo?

Featured Replies

Yes, I am well aware that it's French and will be worth 20p by this time next year, and will have spent nine months in the garage being fixed. If we can all just assume that's been said, and discuss the car itself that wouldd be grand.

I went and sat in one at the weekend and I have to say it looks great, especially in Dynamique trim which is about the same price as a Citigo Monte. The rear wheel drive is interesting and it feels spacious as a result. Has anyone looked at one seriously, and if so, what did you think?

I think Renault are onto something with this car, having the engine in the back helps with the front end styling (bonnet not 3 feet high) allowing the base of the windscreen to neatly meet the side glass. I was hoping it would have more powerful engine option. Unfortunately not had an opportunity to have a look at one yet, just read car mag stuff. :sun:

There is a 90bhp 0.9 litre turbo which sounds nippy enough and I think there's a bigger engine coming.

There is a bigger engined one coming..most likely badged GT as it won't really be renaultsport power.

I had a poke round these at Geneva last year. Platform was developed with Smart and the new fortwo and forfour are essentially the same as the twingo..not sure about the engines but smart are planning a brabus version too!

Look like a lot of smiles per mile!

Given what Renault can do with a hot Megane I am expecting something a bit more driver focused at some point  :sun: makes you wonder if this layout would work in a Megane. That would put the cat amongst the Golf/focus pigeons.

If it helps (it probably doesn't), a friend of mine has a 2009 (i think) renaultsport twingo, and it's a ridiculous little car, but apparently heaps of fun. The engine just revs and revs! Though it does suffer from the usual french build quality, but I guess if you're buying a car like that, that's not top of your priorities.

Autocar have one as a long termer. There is a review in last weeks edition.

They seem happy with it. So far the only gripes they have is the analogue speedo is mph and the kph is digital, apparently this is confusing. (Although personally this is one of the things I love about the MKII Octy, pity it is not on the MKIII Octy!) and the lack of a proper rear hatch release.

Today's test drive was a success - she loved it. I'm going for a go at the weekend.

It looks like a fiat 500 copy

I originally drove the 1 litre normally aspirated version and thought it was ok, but have now tried the 0.9 turbo and it's a far superior car. As well as the obvious power hike, the steering is much better with a toatlly different feel and less turns lock to lock, so we've ordered one.

Unlike the 500 you can comfortably seat 4 6ft adults.

TWINGO- isn't that the new five wheeled mobility scooter. Ah-no, senior moment. But then ,unlike the 500 and Corsa, can it climb hills.

Oh yes. 90bhp has it flying up the inclines.
