North-East uk TDI vRS

Featured Replies

Hello I'm new to the TDI vRS with only purchasing one yesterday and have a "few" :notme:  questions if anyone could help please, I am from Redcar in the north east next to Middlesbrough.

My DPF light came on, on the way home after about 30 minutes of motorway driving, the previous owner said it had been drilled and remapped? not sure what he ment by drilled. Anyone know any prices for a reputable company local to me to get the DPF removed and mapped?

Also I've come from a modified insurance so my insurance is void if i don't modify the car within 14 days which I'm not really happy about but it could do with some springs anyhow, not sure on the drop though would really need some reference's if anybody has a picture they could post with the drop please? on my previous cars I've had Eibach 30mm and h&r 35mm so was happy to see them available or would people suggest any others?

Next is the cat back or Stainless exhaust system, what would people suggest? i don't exactly want to spend close to £500 when it will be coming off in November and the standard putting back on, i know i seen someone suggest A.A.S in Newcastle for a custom exhaust but not sure how much that would cost.

My grill is chrome and wanted to colour code it so ill be on the lookout for a spare grill so i could get it sprayed and want a smaller aerial!

Thanks in advance for any help, info and advice!  :peek: =]

Welcome

I'm from Stockton, there's a guy called Nathan Reid Trades as Specialist ECU based in Middlesbrough i think, he should be able to map out your dpf for a reasonable cost, and the drilling i would assume the guts of the dpf have been removed so the casing is still present for mot purposes but you would need to get it on a ramp to find out for sure

Thanks for the reply!

Yeah I think it will be best to get the guts checked before checking the map out, the guy said it was done at Ridgways by Steve in Rotherham, Just checked out Ridgways and its a part of "The Quantum tuning group" not sure if they have good rep or not.

Theres been a thread on here in the last week or so asking that exact question, i've not heard of them to be honest, i'm going down the blacksmoke diy route as ive been in contact with the owner for some time and hes well respected on the audi a4 scene

ah well if im going by the last owner of this car i wouldn't recommend them! you got a price of them? wouldn't mind know how much its going to set me back  :dull:

I would go for AP coilovers. I also have a dog delete and shark map on mine. Having a custom dpf back exhaust made on Thursday by Longlife exhausts :)

cheers mike much appreciated! does it show stuff thats flashed up and gone or is it only if the fault is still there?

When a DPF is either removed entirely or simply gutted the car must be remapped to code out the sensors that control the DPF.

If the DPF light is coming on then either the DPF is still intact or it has an incorrect / unsuitable map on it.

Another vote here for Shark in Mansfield, they have a very good reputation.

Just visited Nathan Reid as he is only 15 minutes down the road and had the laptop plugged in, give it a full check over and the dpf has been removed but things they have done mapped it out wrong, he did a few things and sorted it out now. While he was there he went through the full lot and checked it all out for bumps/ attempted thefts/ blow outs/ seat belts etc etc and all came back clear and checked out the injectors / turbo etc and said it seems to be running healthy and i found out it needs a service in 100 miles lol.

ive done 230 miles in the last two days in it and it's clearing up and improving all the time, still not sure if it was purely a dpf delete map or a performance map as well but im going to ring Quantum Tuning tomorrow and see if they have kept a record.

oh and it recommends a service in 100 miles, works out about 5k since last service.

If your going to do the suspension, I would do the rear anti roll bar. The weight of the rear of the car is very noticeable when you start to push it into bends.

Is their any How To's on the Rarb or is it simply a case of direct bolt on? and any links to any for sale please?

Just spoke to Quantum Tuning and its had a "Partial" dpf delete i.e drilled and then a "Blue Map" put on which is a cross between power/mpg/dpf this was in may 2013 and said with the light coming on i may have to add a lambda sensor?

he didn't exactly inspire confidence on the phone call like.

So i got my car on the rollers to check out if Quantum Tuning did put the part economy/part performance map and it looks like they have! (189.3hp / 333 lb-ft torque)  It's due a service though which is booked in this Sunday for air/fuel/oil filter and oil change  :nerd:

also getting a new tyre, reverse camera and some rear tints this month then the next direction will be RARB and springs then Stage 1  :)
