Advice on older Octy 1 please

Featured Replies

My Octy vrs estates now 12 years old just clocked 100,000 miles and still going strong. Still great fun to drive. Remarkably its never had any issues not even a fuse needing replacement. Extraordinarily reliable. Body , alloys and interiors starting to look a little tired - those white seat sections were never a good idea.

Wondering now should I spend some money cleaning it up and also if from this mileage up there are any major issues to look out for ? Do the turbos wear out at some point ?

Don't want to spend money refreshing it if it may need big money spent on the mechanics.

Tempted to change but it's been such a great car and also any like for like replacements going to cost quite a lot of dosh.

How do you clean up tired interiors - when the carpets / Seats have had 12 years of small to mod sized child wear etc ?

Thanks in advance

I guess the car owes you nothing if it hasn't needed anything doing for 12 years, so I wouldn't hesitate in getting it looking smart again.

For relatively little money you can get it spruced up again and looking fresh.

Hire a rug doctor from B and Q or Homebase- £30 or £40 will get the carpets and seats reasonably white again. £200 will get the alloys refurbed and maybe £100 at a bodyshop getting it mopped. Under £400 and you may just fall in love with it again...

(P.S sorry I dont have any point of reference for the mechanics issues, I havnt had mine long enough)

Thanks James - whats mopped mean ?

Polished would be my guess.

Yea it's polished and its little things that make the big difference does it have a black carpet ?

Carpet is white - well was white now more grey

Black carpet and some golf gti (mk4) recaros or leathers will change the appearance of the interior no end.

Where's the best place to get black carpet from and what's the cost aprox ?

Anyone any thoughts on the mechanics are there any particular things to look out for as it goes over 100,000 miles ?

Regular servicing, start to look at replacing shocks etc...just general stuff.  You have replaced the cambelt/waterpump and associated stuff too right?

Yes cam belt and pump have been changed

Had new clutch 2 yrs ago and is now serviced annually by local mechanic

Pull it out and replace it with a black carpet from a mk4 golf transforms the interior
