looking to change oil on me skoda octavia classic 1.9 tdi 05,,whats best to use cheers  and it has the pd engine in

Edited by lasthope

any oil that meets the below VW spec is fine to use for your 1.9PD

507.00 longlife service (cars with or without DPF)

505.01 fixed annual 10k service (cars with no DPF only)

The proper quantum stuff from TPS

Search around, I bought 4+1litres & filter for £27 delivered.

Petronas 505.1

This, VW507.00 spec...

Genuine Skoda (Quantum) oil, from an Audi main dealer.

£27 delivered to your door the next day.

You really can't go wrong.

Audi main dealer??????????

Sells second hand cars only (although very nice & nearly new).

And I cannot find a Cardiff Audi website. (only other sites advertising their cars.

If I am put right on this I will be happy to purchase one myself, but the phrase (as in other post) too good to be true (genuine) comes to mind at £27.25 for rrp at £45.

Go to Audi's main UK site and click on 'locate a dealer'.

Add Cardiff into the search box and this is what you get...

https://www.audi.co.uk/locate-a-centre.html

Then click on the link I supplied from eBay and click on 'contact details' at the bottom of the listing.

The addresses are the same.

This address is also the same as the one of the paperwork I received with my oil.

Still doesn't 100% rule out fraudulent activity but the Audi headed paper and official looking Audi invoice I received was good enough for me.

If still in doubt give the Audi main dealer a ring (02920 547555), ask for Neil Harris (the name offered on eBay) and check to see if 1) he works there and 2) they are selling oil on eBay for £27.

Thanks for the info Silver.

Searching "Cardiff Audi" I could not find anything, but following your search criteria, It turns out he is listed under "Our team" as the Parts Manager, so that answers my question.

If it does turn out to be a fake stuff, at least we know where to go, Lol.

Thanks again.

The 1.9 is also a doddle to work on.

You will need a 32mm socket to get the oil filter cap off. Re-tighten to 25nm.

Bargain! I actually paid more for Triple QX from Euro Car Parts.

Will buy some of that for my next service (due in 4000 miles).

Yes, done mine a few weeks ago now. My first oil change, that I can remember doing, anyway.

As you say Phil, absolute doddle, made even easier by borrowing a second trolley jack.

Got the six sided 32mm impact socket from 'Alfords', as I was in a rush to get it done.

I purchased the oil that Silver recommended, too, after emailing Mr Harris directly, to confirm the Ebay site belonged to them. It did. :) .

Mine was even easier than that... I used my Pela oil extractor!

You can save a small fortune doing service yourself. I also did my first 40k mile DSG oil change myself.

Phil

I also did my first 40k mile DSG oil change myself.

Phil

I will have to look into that Phil.

I'm a little sceptical about the necessity of this change and have seen a few others mention high mileages without changing this oil. Controversial, ( know.

I thought it was a lot more difficult to do the DSG box oil change, regarding the amount and re-setting some sensor or something?

Mine is about due (I think) if I was to stick to the 40k, so not worried at the moment. Not really using the car much at the moment either.

No point me ordering, they don't post to the highlands.

I'd rather just stick with the recommended schedule.

The reason it's there is that the oil used to lubricate the box is the same oil used to lubricate the clutches. This means it can get quite warm and obviously over time particles of clutch material get into the oil.

It's a doddle to do. The "official" method is to use a special filling tool while monitoring the oil temperature etc etc. This more often than not results in a slight under-fill of oil.

The preferred DIY method is to drain, measure the amount and refill by the same plus 100ml. If 4.5 litres comes out then it's spot on and you can refill with 4.6 litres.

Phil, did you use your 'Pela' for this too? If so, is it as easy without one?

Could it be done on the driveway? Would you recommend I do it myself? I am pretty competent and have a pretty full toolbox.

As said, I do need to look into it a bit more before considering it. Is it as easy as changing the engine oil?

I guess the 'official method' is to hope people will not do it themselves, and have to pay a garage for it?

Thanks for the info, and any part numbers - filter and oil type etc / special tools required would be gratefully appreciated.

Cheers Bud. (is VCDS needed or anything resetting?)

I used the pela very briefly to suck out a few drops in the oil filter housing.

I did it on my drive. You need to jack the car up and drain the oil from the bottom.

It involves removing the air intake, battery and battery box to gain access.

I found it very easy and painless.

Tools needed are;

14mm allen (drain plug)

8mm allen (plastic snorkel thing)

24mm socket (oil filter housing)

Torque wrench (you can find the torque with a google)

Mine was even easier than that... I used my Pela oil extractor!

+1 for oil extractors.  I've been using one to do my oil changes on my Fabia vrs for the last 120,000 miles.

Cheers Phil.

I may need an Allen key or two then, but have the other stuff.

I will have a look at the link.

Thanks again.

Yeah it's a pretty big size.

You need one to go on a torque wrench ideally too.
