Faulty light bulb sign

Featured Replies

Have been looking around my 61 reg Elegance what bulb could be out, what I did find perhaps you can tell me. On the headlights there is one part which has small halogen type bulb both sides. They do not come on when switching from park to main beam . So what are these for ? are these the reason for fault sign.

I suspect you are talking about the DRL's, a lot of Octavia's left the factory with these bulbs deactivated.

They first need activating by a dealer before they will work or can be turned on or off (using the instructions in the manual).

On cars that have them activated they only illuminate when all other lights (side / parking lights and/or dipped beam) are turned off and the ignition is on.

If they are indeed deactivated then they won't trigger the blown-bulb warning on the dash so you must have another failed bulb somewhere else...

The number plate lights are usually missed when checking for faulty bulbs.

It is also worth noting that there are 4x tail / night lights. The two outermost bulbs do have a tendency to blow and can be missed when giving a quick visual check (although I do believe that these two bulbs are not monitored by the blown-bulb warning system)...

Thanks guys for that.

When the bulb out warning light comes on, have you tried switching off the engine, leave a few seconds and switch black on?

Recently after cleaning the car or after it has been really cold or raining heavily, I initiative get the bulb out warning light come on. As soon as I switch off the engine and restart soon after, the warning stays off.

On two recent occasions I did get out and check all the lamps/bulbs, though none were out.

Can the DRLs be switched by VCDS?

A blown bulb that is usually missed when checking for blown bulbs is the high level brake light.

Yes the drls can be switched on using vcds
