Garmin Express

Featured Replies

Is anybody else having issues with the latest version 4 Gamin Express software at all?.

I upgraded when prompted during the weekend, then was notified of a map upgrade yesterday.

When I tried to download, it keeps failing to complete, and keeps offering a software version upgrade that also fails to complete.

In desperation, I uninstalled v4 last night and reinstalled v3 and all went as normal.

I am just curious if it was just me or if others are suffering.

Many thanks for any input in advance,

Phil

No problems here. 3 PCs running latest Express and my Zumo 590 & the wife's Zumo 660 both updated to latest maps that were released yesterday.

It is quite common to have issues within a few days of new maps being released as Garmin's servers get hammered. Usually settles down within a week or so.

Hmm, very odd, when you say latest version express, are we talking version 4, as the new version is very different visually to version 3?.

I tried during most of yesterday to get the map upgrade, and it wouldn't have it at all, but as soon as I downgraded to v3, it picked up the server first attempt, and they are now installed on the unit.

I re-upgraded last night, and they are now on version 4.08, which seem far more stable than version 4.07.

Just wish they could stop the damned thing switching itself off whenever it wants to, but after last weeks sat nav thread, it would seem I am definitely not alone there. Unit has done it from day one, and Garmin do not seem to know what causes it

I am talking about version 4, the very different looking one

I have a Garmin Nuvi 3598 and just got a few laptop. So I downloaded the necessary progs to link and update the Nuvi.

I have to say Garmin Express is a bit of a misnomer.... It said it would take more than three hours to update.... It certainly did.... It took 12 hours!

The last update I did was just after I bought it a year ago and it said it would take more than three hours and it took six.

So am I the only person who doesn't understand why progressing to the latest software, called Express, should take twice as long?!

No matter what version of express I've used and the previous map updater software (had 4 Garmins over 9 years), it has always taken between 6 - 10 hours to update the maps.

I think it is down to the sheer volume of conections that occur during an update release cycle for Garmin.
