Motoring (I'm ex motor trade). Photography. Sailing.
    I am now retired.
My career has always been in sales & marketing, including many years "on the road" as a sales rep.
After a bad accident when my car was written off on the Tyne Bridge one Christmas Eve (didn't half cause traffic chaos!) I joined the motor trade. I ended up as sales manager for a well known Swedish franchise.

  1. Hi, I might be interested if you aren’t near Jmagee and are in the North East
  2. Hi Guys, I’d like to thank you all for the information re fuel consumption figures. I have had 4x4s before and realise you do take a bit of a hit on consumption but living where I do it’s worth it. I found the Sportline incredibly comfortable. However I couldn’t get away with the 19” rims with low profile tyres as we regularly visit friends who live in a farmhouse next to a disused quarry and the road is unbelievably bad. I toyed with the idea of changing the rims to a smaller size with a higher profile tyre but the leasing company refused my request! The result is I have ordered a new Honda HRV e-HEV which should arrive next July or August.
  3. Does anyone have actual fuel consumption figures for a Karoq Sportline 2.0 DSG 4x4? I have seen Skodas figures but would appreciate consumption figures in the real world!
  4. Check the roof very carefully for scratches..... these often happen when a tall transporter drives along a road with overhanging trees. When I was sales manager at a Volvo dealership, the transporter drivers used to hate it if I checked a car off. I’m 6’7” and perfect height for checking car roofs for scratches and I found several cars with scratched roofs. It’s worth checking bodywork very carefully because once you drive off the forecourt, it’s up to you!
  5. It looks stunning! The colour doesn't suit all cars but I have to say your Race Blue Karoq looks fantastic.
  6. Hi.... I had a Karoq which had two unfixable faults... the "kangaroo problem" (which I believe now has a resolution) and the dangerous one..... intermittent zero throttle response when outside temp below about 5 degrees and engine temp below about 70 degrees... terrifying. I had a fantastic Yeti and then the problematic Karoq so I lost confidence in the brand. My wife had her second Peugeot 2008 (first one a diesel manual and now a 1.2 petrol auto) which have been faultless, I bought a Peugeot 3008 1.6 petrol auto (8 speed) and it's superb. I am very "picky" about my cars. I'm ex motor trade and worked at Toyota, Fiat, Honda and finally ending up, for my sins, as sales manager at a Volvo dealership. I bought the 3008 having driven the 2008 and so impressed after the test drive and went for it. I can heartily recommend the Pug.. it beats my last three cars (Yeti, BMW X1, Karoq) hands down. Good luck!
  7. I still have the car until next week when it goes. Its such a shame but I’ve had enough.
  8. When I read this post, I thought I’d written it! It mirrors my history with the 1.5 DSG Karoq. The car had three weeks off the road in the first three months. Totally unacceptable, even though I had a hire car. Now the stutter is as bad as ever and like the OP I haven’t had the dangerous zero throttle response issue.... BUT.... it’s much warmer now and my zero throttle response only happened when the outside temperature was about 5 degrees or below, so it could be next winter before it raised its head again. It’s very sad as apart from the above it’s an excellent vehicle.
  9. Set of 4 genuine Skoda Karoq rubber mats. Only been in car for approx 2000 miles. Selling as car is being returned! Asking price £35... collection only due to weight and probable carriage costs. You could have them F.O.C. if you buy my Vredestein Wintrac Extreme winter tyres which are offered for sale on the Wheels and Tyres section!
  10. You made the right choice. Unfortunately I have to change my Karoq and there’s no option on my new Pug 3008 for a heated steering wheel or heated windscreen. I’ll miss them both but especially the heated steering wheel!
  11. For Sale 4 Verdestein Wintrac Extreme S M&S Winter Tyres which have only done about 1000 miles - My Karoq 1.5 SEL being returned to the garage as I'm fed up with it - The garage have had it the best part of one of the three months I have had it! Size 215/50 R 18 92 V Cost me £600 and will accept OIRO £250. Local collection only - Three Miles from Beamish open Air Museum - Three miles from Stanley Co Durham
  12. If you haven’t sorted tyres.... I have a set of Vredestein Wintrac Extremes for sale. Less than 1000 miles. At a silly cheap price! Pm me if interested.
  13. I have had the fix to alleviate the throttle response problem when cold and it seems to be fine.... as well as having the intermittent lack of throttle response sorted (I hope!) I seem to have smoother starts when pulling away at junctions... even with my size 12s I am not getting as much wheelspin! The bunnyhop fix is supposed to come later in Q2 but the “dangerous?” problem seems to have been sorted. I the fix doesn’t work I may well go for the 1.0 DSG which hopefully doesn’t have the same problems.
  14. In motor trade lingo I think it’s “characteristic of the model”! It certainly does wake you up the first time it happens but it’s the only niggle I have found with the fantastic ACC system. I have had standard cruise control on many cars but the adaptive cruise is a system once you have used it you’ll find it hard to do without it.
