Bolero screen frozen on startup

Featured Replies

Howdy, 1st time poster and proud (ish) owner of a 2014-03 Octavia.

Everything was fine for the 1st 3 days I had it then on the 4th it gave me a shock :( . The Bolero screen started up as normal but would not respond to any key presses

Volume control was the only thing that worked, everything else was a no go.

Turning the unit off, back on again did nothing - still complete lock up. Turning the ignition off, back on again had the same affect - still complete lock up. I gave up and did a 45 minute drive to work and gave the whole power off/on thing another go - still useless. At this point my anxiety level was through the roof. After all I've just spent a tidy sum on a good looking car and then this happens.

Anyway I decided to walk away, compose myself  and try again later on. It proved to be successful. Everything was back to normal and has been for the following 2 successive days. Hopefully this is the last I've seen of this problem.

I contacted 2 Skoda dealers (including the one who sold it to me) and they claimed never to have heard of a problem like this before. Both suggested bringing the car in for an investigation but it's useless without the problem being there.

If it happens again then it's straight back to the authorised dealer, other than that I'll assume this is a one-off unexplained technical hiccup .....please don't go wrong or I'll just cry

Happened a few times to me. Last time it was when I tried to start the car. In in wrong gear selection (dsg). Pulled over, put car in park, removed the key. Restarted. All ok. Think I locked/ unlocked the car whilst sat in it also. Must have got confused.

You can usually bring it back to life by holding the power knob in for about 10 seconds. It forces the system to do a full reboot, like a computer.

If it happens again, film it on your phone before you reset it, it'll help you get some assistance from your dealer and Skoda.
