How much torque can the clutch handle?

Featured Replies

As per the title, I guess; how much torque can the standard clutch on a 130 TDi take?

Are you thinking of remaps and such? I don't know the number, sure someone else does. In general though they take what they can until they can't take it anymore. People on here run original clutches right up to the top end of stage 1 for years. Others get a remap and they start slipping on the way home. It's a bit of a luck of the draw kind of thing, the figures are just a guideline. Some of the guys in the Fabia section are still running original clutches after thousands of miles on 250bhp+ set ups. If you start increasing power there's a chance you could push it too far but not guaranteed, all I'll say is if it ain't broke don't fix it, it will let you know when it's had enough, just have some dollar put aside just in case!

Depends on what mileage the clutch has done, boils down to state/condition of clutch.

If you up the torque you are going to find-out very quickly if clutch is able to cope, budget for replacement..

I was told by my mapper it's not the bhp that kills the stock clutch.  It's the torque increase from the remap.  So you need to know what maximum torque it can tolerate. I have a feeling on the diesel the stock clutch is safe upto 300 ib/ft, similar to the VRS.

But again, many people's stock clutches have survived for thousands of miles and still going right on the limit or over the tolerance figures.  Treat them as a guideline.  As said unlucky people have had slipping clutches driving home from the remap.  Don't let the fear of this stop you getting remapped, stage 1 you shouldn't have to worry too much unless you're one of the unlucky ones.
