Importing a Yeti from mainland Europe

Featured Replies

Looking at the extent to which the Euro has fallen against the Pound over recent months, I'm wondering whether it might once more be a good time to import a Yeti from, say, the Netherlands, Belgium or Denmark.  I made a huge saving (thousands) around 15 years ago, but since then it hasn't been worthwhile - largely because of the strength of the Euro.

It may be that VW Group discounts now available in the UK (which were rarer 15 years ago) have made it pointless - but has anyone considered it?

How much can you save buying from the UK?

Probably around 15%.

You'd only get 2 years warranty, as the 3rd year is dealer support, and would you get the breakdown cover?

Almost certainly not.  There are also one or two potential insurance issues (resolvable) and a few other minor drawbacks to doing it, and it wouldn't be worth considering for just a couple of hundred pounds.  It would have (for me) to save at least £750 to make it worthwhile, and that may not be achievable.  I was just wondering [lazily] whether anyone had happened to check into it lately.

Last time round there was a saving of more than £3000 on mid-range VW (a lot more on top end ones) even after all expenses, such as the nice little trip to the Netherlands.  Always a pleasure.

Have you considered looking at the likes of car wow? They get you discount prices for the car you want from dealers. I've been looking at a few and the discounts are substantial. It would get you a uk car without the other issues you mention.

I got my car thru Carwow saving over £2700 a couple of months ago and was lucky enough to get it from my local dealer only 7 miles away.

Was a bit worried about it as it's the first time I've done it like that but I had excellent service from them and my local dealer.

No calls from the other dealers that had given me a price as all contact until its time to order is thru Carwow PMs then face to face with the supplying dealer .

Don't know why I did not use it before.

I spect mine up on carfile and asked my dealer if he could match it and he did saved £3500 and he gave me £400 more than WBAC part ex

I imported a Seat Ibiza about 12 years ago, was definitely worth it at the time, got to spec a few nice options that weren't available in the UK too.

Did it through a Dutch dealer who was selling loads to UK, and it was fairly painless.

If I was considering a new car I'd do it again, but haven't looked recently to know if it's worthwhile.
