Egr on or off

Featured Replies

I keep hearing of people having truble with the egr valve and them getting rid of it and replacing with a strait through pipe, Can anyone explane to me the job of the egr valve?

And then tell me if it's best taken off?

Or cleand and left on?

On my 2.0 tdi with 140,000 on it

Cheers kev.

P.s my car is running fine with no issues so was woundering if the egr could be a problem down the road so to speak.

I have to say my pd needed the turbo cleaning as had sticky vane syndrome at about 108k.

The exhaust gasses recirculated through the intake section of the turbo causes the vanes to get gunked up with a laquer layer of crap from the gasses causing them to stick and boost to be effected.

I guess if you have got to 140k then you are lucky based on experiences on here.

I've taken my EGR off cleaned the turbo and sorted the problem.

You are lucky! I bought my car in 90,000Kwith no known issues! A day later engine mgmt light on and has been a pain since! EGR being deleted next Tuesday :)

If no problems at present leave it alone , otherwise it can be cleaned no problem if you like getting your hands on .if removed and left off it will take alot longer for the car to get up to running temperature when cold starting which is pitta in the winter as you will have a cold blower for longer and worse mpg ,you will also get the eml light come on some engine codes it will need mapping out if it dose,
