Load cover

Featured Replies

On taking my load cover out today to move some stuff to the tip I found a compartment in it. In front of the "roller blind" and on top of the unit is a full width lidded area that looks as though it is shaped for something to fit in it, any ideas anyone?

I have 3 little rubber mats in mine,im guessing its a storage area for various crap, ive never used it though

I think it was a secret compartment which was fairly discrete! Very limited access to mine. Don't think many people look too closely especially if my girlfriends dobermans are in the car.

Strange shape and place for a storage bin but still, better than nothing I suppose. Thanks

What is a load cover may I ask?

I am intrigued to find a secret compartment that I did not know about!

It is for umbrella's

jrjg - the "roller blind" that pulls out from behind the rear seat to cover the boot area

john42 - mmm could be - depends on the handle

Is this the estate model we are taking about ?

I think it must be. As the hatches just have a solid parcel shelf.

I thought I had missed a trick then for a little while. I was scratching my head thinking "load cover... Load cover...secret compartment...?"

Sorry, yes it is the estate

Is the compartment the whole width? If so it could be to hold the optional "roller load net" which is used to partition the load section from the passengers, ie, fits between  top of seats and the roof lining and stops loads moving forward.

Its page 73 of the drivers handbook if that helps.

It is the full width,il get a pic in a minute so people know what we are talking about.

Just had a look at my handbook and the "roller load net" attaches to the rear of the rear seats, so it isn't that either.

If I can, tomorrow I'll also take some pictures and see what the common wisdom is

Here's a few pictures which hopefully will make it clearer.

The last one is a close up of what look like small magnets inset into the frame

Hi Coco,

It is for umbrella's, I have 3 in mine in case I have a full car and more than one is needed. Mine is an estate as well. It is what it is for, honest.

I'll believe you!

I couldn't work out whether there was something that should have been in there and was missing, or if there was an option that could be fitted - like the roller load net that ilikeradios mentioned. Shame really as I need something to deter the dog jumping over the rear seats and that would have been ideal.

If you don't have passengers in often, then the rear head rests are ideal for that. Raise them up and even a terrier will have problems getting over.

Ilikeradios - that's the sort of thing

VWD - unfortunately I only have two rear headrests so  the gap in the middle is easily big enough for a dog, but I might be able to "adapt" something
