car cleaning: fabia monte carlo

Featured Replies

Hi all, I have a 2011 monte carlo in white( never again) I think its partly down to the fabia shape sucking the dirt onto itself, but partly down to the lack of mudguards.....Even when i've cleaned the car as best I can, first off with the pressure washer, then two or three changes of soapy water starting from the top down, then rinse, I’m left with what looks like a mist coat of black paint from a rattle can.... thing is I just cant seem to get this black stuff off, it doesn’t look like road tar because it doesn’t really leave that brown stain behind when you scrape at it with a finger nail, but you can feel it when you run a finger over it. I just cant seem to shift them no matter how hard I try, rubbing with a sponge, finger nail, thing is, its everywhere, all down the sides and all over the boot i'd be there a month of sundays getting it off.... the question I’m asking is.... how do you keep your fabias clean? I’m at rather a loose end....

Before seeing about keeping it clean you had best see what is on it now,

Overspray from someplace you park,  or it has been like in a Dealership or the likes,

best get that removed then see about getting the car Polished and waxed up & sealed.

How long have you had the car, and has it been like this from the start.

Maybe there is some keen Detailer near you that can help, first getting the Black Removed, Claying if Necessary or what ever treatment is required.

Then maybe best fit Mud Flaps, but they still get dirty up there jacksy.

Have you tried using tar remover(autosmart tardis)

i have white too so i know what a pain it is but i find autoglym tar remover a godsend, i buy it when its 3 for 2 at halfords. its like water so takes no rubbing, usually just 1 maybe 2 passes and there gone

I have exactly the same issue with little black tar spots and it is incredibly annoying!

Are proper Skoda mudflaps available for the monte ?

Have you tried a clay bar or clay mitt on the problem areas? I don't seem to have your problem on my sprint yellow which I would have thought would be just as bad as white for showing any marks?

a clay bar works wells enough but itll end up costing more than the autoglym tar remover

Do not start claying if you do not know what is on the paint, incase it is Spray Paint from someone working outside say,

factories, body shop etc. (fall out)

So use the Tar Remover and see if it is softening or coming off.

But i am not going to suggest a little test with Solvents because i will get flamed like previously.

Obviously i would never test a ickle place with Nail Varnish Remover, White Spirits, Meths, or even a little WD40 on a cloth.

Proper spirits are obviously available, and a Detailer might be along with advice, i am just a ex Car Sprayer.

wd40 is actually very good for such stuff, i use it on my motorbike wheels all the time, its the only thing that gets all the brake dust off

Hi George,

A clay bar used lightly with a good lube won't harm anything, it just won't shift it if it is overspray from something

.

Actually the more recent Clay Mitt is a great tool and can be used many times over so not a bad investment for around £12.99 Halfords.

Yep clay cloth would be my first port of call, then Tardis

do you park near a railway line op?

Im guessing its either (a) tar or (b ) general fallout.

You need some tar remover, fall out/iron remover and a clay mitt/cloth/bar.

Can you post some pictures up?

To keep it clean you need to wax/seal your car which will help but not stop it getting dirty.

I can't help with the black stuff on your white Fabia but if you, or anybody else wants some

really effective mud flaps contact www.performancecreations.co.uk based in Bolton.

Performance Creations used my Monte Carlo Estate, it's white, to create the special rear

mudflaps for the MC estate.

Yes, the estate rear still gets some dirt even with the mudflaps but a lot less dirt than no mudflaps

at all.

White cars show the dirt but at least one needs just a single wash to remove the dirt, whereas a

black car looks clean when wet but invariably when it dries one has missed a bit of dirt.

Arguably silver is the ideal colour, it does not show the dirt as much as white but when one is

washing the car one can clearly see all the dirt & one wash is enough to thoroughly clean the car.

Never again a black, or dark coloured car!!!

Hi all, thanks for the replies sorry its taken me a while to reply, the spots cant be spray as its never been parked (in my ownership) anywhere near a spray booth or anyone that uses spray paint, i t seems to be all over the car and not just a side which i would expect if it was spray drift. I have tried a TFR and that hasn't shifted anything, interesting about the clay mitt, i'll have to investigate that. i'll give the clay mitt and the tar remover a go and let you know how i get on, maybe with some pictures if my coal fired computer can handle the uploads! thanks for the help!

i have some cardboard i was going to try and make some templates for some mud flaps, perhaps buy some urethane sheet and cut them out of that, maybe it'll look gash, maybe itll be alright, you don't know 'till you try

If it isn't tar it stands a chance of being ferrus particles. Iron x or similar will soon prove whether it is or not as it'll turn the particles purple if they are ferrous based. I'd suggest you ask a mod to transfer this post to the styling and car section and post some photos. The chaps on there will be able to advise you in more detail on what you need to use/do.
