Cam belt change- are belts date marked?

Featured Replies

Both my ex police cars have 140,000 miles on the clock and according to Skoda that's when they are due a cam belt replacement.

I have full service histories for the vehicles but these have been done by Kent police and the vehicles have never been in to a Skoda Dealership.

An example of the service history is (I've rounded mileages)

14,000 101 service

26,000 102 service

38,000 101 service

50,000 103 service

62,000 101 service

74,000 102 service

86,000 104 service

97,000 103 service

109,000 101 service

121,000 102 service

133,000 101 service

I don't know what exactly a 101, 102, 103 or 104 service is I have a couple of questions;

Does anyone know what they are? (I'm wondering if a 104 could be Cambelt).

Are Cambelts marked with a manufacture date like most parts are?

would these codes mean anything too skoda if you went into the dealership ? or is there a way of speaking too the police workshop , would the people u bought it from know . surly they've had at least one belt on though

No didn't mean anything to Skoda and the auction house didn't know.

My dealings with the police, about a crime, have been unbelievably frustrating recently and If they can't deal with that I'd be surprised if they would help for something like asking about servicing.

I do think the 104 could be a belt but it would be well before Skoda's recommended change.

o didn't men .My dealings with the police, about a crime, have been unbelievably frustrating recently and If they can't deal with that I'd be surprised if they would help for something like asking about servicing.

forget your previous dealing with the police, ring the force that previously owned your car, and ask for the workshops, you can then hopefully talk to a technician who will give you the information

Well I contacted Kent police and got a very quick response but not very detailed;

The codes refer to the grade of service we carry out, i.e. 101 is a basic service,  leading up to 104 which is a full service including a cam belt change.

but at least I do know both mine had cam belts at 86,000. (Skoda recommended is 140,000 or 5 years).

Hi, I have the old factory fitted cam belt from mine and I cant see any date on it.

For a 2.0 CR the intervals used to be 4 years or 120k miles.

It was recently changed to 5 years or 120k miles for cars manufactured after September 2010.

It seems they did it early but they maybe got the mileage limit confused with other engines.
