Problems with Skoda Columbus

Featured Replies

Hi.

I have Octavia VRs 2.0 TFSI 2006.y

I changed car radio to newer one with navigation and DVD. Its maded at 2008 anda has: HW H04 and SW 1004

I noticed that radio is not turnig off As it should.... Its turnig off after 3 minutes after car ignition is turned off, BUT... in few minutes radio turns back on in sleep mode (display black, no sound, but fan is working), so it gives a signal to subwoofer and radio + subwoofer are eating my battery :(

Is there any solutions?

Maby i have to update firmware? It will help?

Thank you!!!

Welcome to the forum.

Usually older firmware that this is apparently on (1004) doesn't cause battery drain.  My guess it has already been updated and the label is therefore out of date.  Is the secret menu active (press and hold setup for 20 secs and report back HW number from that menu if it is).

Yes Mike, correct it does depend on the age of the gateway.  Really early versions have battery drain regardless, other slightly newer ones have battery drain on newer firmware only, while around 2007-08 models and newer are ok on all firmware to 4 series.  I reckon a 2006 will be near the boundary of the first two cases but likely to be the first, whereas your 54 plate was comfortably in that first case.

These days with the cost of a gateway being so cheap (eBay) and being easy to get to in the earlier pre 2007-08 cars, I would recommend changing that rather than risk a modified firmware update to sort battery drain.  You need someone who knows what they are doing with VCDS though.

The latter modified firmware route is seemingly more risky of late, perhaps as older units' CD drive lasers get less reliable with time.

Thanks Mike.

You can try modified firmware 4020 for older European Units at www.rnsfirmware.com. It is at your own risk and you will lose music and maps but it may work to cure battery drain in conjuction with the hacks at

http://www.my-gti.com/3374/volkswagen-rns-510-firmware-upgrade-and-information

for

CAN Bus fix for old gateways

and

Skoda Columbus (RNS 510) Fix

(see halfway or so down page).

Ebay uk item 221720535691 is a gateway that will work. Perhaps they will post to Latvia if you ask?

I already have downloaded 4020 for older rns 510 europe units

Thanks!!

Mine was too Mike but it went happily to 4020. I know a few others who did too. Not much more to be gained over 2724 though although the three partitions of 3xxx and above and newer POIs make it faster I believe.
