1st oil and filter change

Featured Replies

TSI VRS, 1500kms in, what oil and what filter please? Looking at Castrol Edge 0W-40 or 5W-30 but haven't come across the filter code. Appreciate any tips on tools used etc. Cheers

Filter, just get it from the dealer. You need a large socket or spanner to remove the housing 36mm iirc but not sure.

Oil, Castrol edge, 5w -30 to the correct vag spec, 507 I think it is, this is in the manual.

You'll need something to remove the sump plug, a 2 pence coin or its nz equivalent works well.

The filter has a drain plug, so unscrew the case several turns and leave in place for a minute or two to drain, then lift off, no mess that way.

Thanks Neiln, is the filter just open in the housing or is it a cassette like traditional filters? Cheers

Its just a paper element in a plastic housing

Yep just a paper element that pops in the housing.

BTW, the engine takes 6l of oil..... Quite a lot.... You need a big tray to catch it!  My usual drip/draining tray was getting very full before the end.

Hey guys, quick query re. oil please. Manual says VW502 (TSI) is fine but Google assures me the 504 is more in vogue. Want to look after her, what are you putting in your RS? Cheers
