Q16 variable servicing?

Featured Replies

Dear all,

I'm struggling to get my head around service intervals for my 14' octavia estate. It went in a few weeks ago on approximately 6,000 miles for an oil change. However, about 2-3 weeks ago an inspection message keeps appearing on the dash.

I've checked the handbook and the car is based on Q16 variable service intervals. When I check the manual, inspections and oil change come in at 30,000 km or after 2 years - the car is well within both these parameters.

Can someone give any insight into this please?

Thanks in advance.

If in UK intervals for fixed are 1 year 10k miles or on variable 2 year or 20k miles.

Doesnt quite tally up with the 1 year/15k KM or 2 year 30k KM official servicing regime but thats how they do it over here.

If doing less than 10k miles/year i'd suggest staying on fixed intervals to ensure it gets an oil change yearly. If doing more miles then variable might suit better.

I think you need VCDS at least to change the servicing interval, or your dealer would do it for you.

Also....the service indicator probably came on as the garage probably didnt reset it.

I believe with the right equipment it is possible to retrospectively tell the car to reset the indicator based upon mileage it was serviced at so you'll end up with the right period and it not be reset to the default.

Thanks pipsyp, that's very helpful

I had the dealer change mine from variable to fixed on Friday however the service status still shows as due in 600 odd days.

Dealer said it would take a little while to display properly. Does that sound right ?

No brooksuk doesnt sound right to me. Sounds like they havent committed the config change to the ECU via VAS. Id pop back and get it checked.

My car originally was on variable...at its first fixed service the garage changed it to fixed and reset it. It showed 365 days or 9300 miles straight off.

Around 8,500

Weird - what does it say in Infotainment in terms of miles and days for both service types?

I've cracked my issue now....

For fixed servicing....Apparently the first inspection service isn't due for 2 years anyway and then reverts to yearly (hence the 600 odd days quoted in infotainment) but at 1 year it's due an oil service.

I guess that means they're gonna charge me £139 (minor service price) just to change the oil!

That's all a minor and inspection service is anyway until you hit 60k
