Stone chip

Featured Replies

I've got a bloody stone chip already, near the front of the bonnet, deep enough that its made a slight dent (very small).

The chips away man happened to be up the road so I asked him to look at it. Apparently it's not something he can fix as you'd be able to see the paint repair against the rest of the immaculate paint.

He suggested that I just get the relevant touch up pot and dab it very carefully. I'd have a blue chip rather than a white chip!

Any advice please? Does this sound right?

I never think that touch-up pots are very good. If the Chips Away guy says it then he of all people should tell you the truth. Maybe there's another franchisee in the area who will sort it. Unlucky and Irritating that it is, it is a sad fact that you'll get hit by stones or chips. I watched with resignation as a large stone was flicked out off a nearby tractor and unerringly centred on my 2 week old windscreen then bounced off, leaving a slight mark in the MOT critical area. After less than 3 months there are already 1-2 small marks on the front caused by debris commonly found on the roads around here. I will wait a year or two or whenever it needs it then have it re-sprayed like my MKII.

Think these chip repairs are usually ok on vertical areas,so long as the panel has creases (manufactured ones) in to divert the eye from the offending repair. However on a Rossi Bruneli red Octy I had. I had a few chips in the front section of the roof. Initially I filled it with several layers of touch up. Months later I had a dent in front wing. A local body guy took the dent out. Said I'd done the best thing with the roof. He just buffed it flush. I had trouble finding it afterwards. I appreciate the bonnet is more visible. But nothing to lose trying it.

This is why i'm looking at a clear film stone chip protection.
