Climatronic Auto button does not work?

Featured Replies

Is it me being dumb? I just got a 2nd hand Octavia 1.8t 4x4, but if I push the Auto button, Nothing happens ever. if i turn off all the options such as feet or face, and adjust the fan speed then at one point the auto will come on and it seems to adjust depending on the temp setting i choose.

Another question was with my wing mirrors, if it is set to adjust the RH mirror, then both mirrors move.

Please help!!

Need the fault codes reading on your a/c system.

And the mirrors are supposed to do that.

Adjust your right mirror and then the left. It's actually a clever idea.

Sounds like Auto is doing just what it should - if you change fan speed, outlets etc. then you are going into manual, hence "auto" disappears.

Auto will achieve the set temperature by whatever method it sees fit, so setting a much higher or lower cabin temp than currently exists will need the fan speed to change and cooling/heating to be applied as required (the vents in use can also change).

If you start to fiddle with the selector buttons then "auto" disappears as you have taken manual control (but the air con is still working). If you see "Econ" then air conditioning has been switched off and the climate control will use outside air + heating to achieve the set temperature, but you lose the drying effect of the air con ( you obviously can't get any cooler air than exists outside the car).

At this colder time of year you probably won't miss the air con when using econ, except when you start to mist up- then the use of auto (or the display blank) will supply dry air to clear the windows much more quickly.

One quirk of the system is that when the outside air temperature is 5 Celsius or below the air con won't work in order to prevent the condensation around the compressor freezing. This can result in long demisting times on slightly frosty mornings just when you need it most!

Overall, I just press the auto button once and leave it all year, setting the temp between 19 in the summer and 23 in winter which seems to cover most things (this also helps prolong the life of the air con system seals, with very little effect on mpg).

Well today has been a warm one down in Kent, went for a spin, and discovered the Econ button does not work either, There is no way of turning it on. Also at exactly 24 Hrs after getting it, someone pinched the rear registration plate!! So we went on down to Skoda dealer, and now have it booked in for Tuesday, to look at the problems with the Climatronic. they seem to think that the gas may need topping up. Once i find the cure I shall update for all!

That's of course unless anyone has any more ideas now they know the Econ button is Not working!

Thanks for the help on the wing mirrors, thought it was the norm but thought i would check.

Cheers folks. C

Does the compressor click in with the engine running when the fans/ac is switched on?

sure does, the aircon does seem to work well, just no auto button and no econ button!!

Then it wont be a gas fault.

Might be with the control unit.

That's what i'm thinking. I will let everyone know on Tues night after they have hopefully fixed it!!

Someone pinched the reg plate? I hope no swine plans to use it to bomb through a GATSO or two. Keep an eye on that one.

Well took it back to the garrage today. initialy before looking at it they said it may be that it needs rechaging, but when I left the car with them for a few hours, the told me they had put it on the fault code reader and it had told them there is some air flap at fault wich needs replacing. They don't have any in stock so it's off back in on Thursday. Hopefully this is the problem, I'm still a bit worried it may be the head unit (bit that has the buttons on it).

As for the reg plate not sure if it maybe an idea to inform the bill that it got taken. So I shall now let you know on Thu how it all goes.

Oh anyone know where to get a good cheap VAG Com cable?? cheers
