Gearbox oil choices

Featured Replies

Just a question regarding possibly going thinner to try and cure a really notchy change. I've done a little internet scouring last night and found a few forums recommending using 75w-80 instead of the standard 75w-90. These issues were on an Audi forum but same difference. Basically a few members had put there car into the main dealer complaining of a notchy change and the dealer had changed to the thinner oil with success.

P/N for the thinner oil is G052 171 A2 but apparently its £20 a litre so Fuchs Titan Sintofluid got a mention. It was thought that this was sold to main dealers then rebranded but it was only a suspicion. That oil is half the price of dealer stuff. So i just wondered if anyone knows or has used the thinner oil before and wether it worked or not. Just for reference i don't believe my clutch is goosed I've changed the cable ends done loads of alignments dogbone bush its driving me mad!!

Maybe its worth renewing with standard stuff and see if its not been done before?

The Fuchs is for sale on ebay from opieoils. I've sent them an email asking wether its suitable for my car but as its easter weekend I'm not expecting a response til next week. I just wondered if anyone had used the thinner oil.

Whatever you choose don't skimp on quality based on price, chances are that you will only have to change your gearbox oil once in the cars lifetime,so you may as well treat yourself and the car to the best available product.

I don't buddy my car is very well mantained but I'm not into wasting money either. If the Fuchs is the same oil as the dealer will sell you i don't want to spend double for the same stuff.

I know what you're saying,I'm a relocated Northerner,I won't pay over the odds for anything if I can possibly help it ;)
