Fabia vRS gearbox

Featured Replies

I Got My New Vrs This Week (40 Miles On Collection) Now At 100 Miles It Has Started To Jump Out Of Fith Gear. I Have Taken It Back To Dealer Today And Am Awaiting Repair. Has Anyone Had Or Heard Of A Similar Fault

This is a new one on me.

There was a common problem of rattling at idle in neutral. The fix is known by dealers (fitting shoorter cables) and shouldn't be a problem anymore.

I think the gearbox is one of the strongest parts of the car. You must be gutted mate.:(

I agree with above comment..... this is possibly the best gearbox I've used.... don't often hear of it breaking either .....

Hope you get it sorted

Mine doesnt seem to like going into 6th sometimes - it may just be that the cables (or whatever it uses) need adjusting, deffo a warranty job though

I think your just unlucky, The Fab VRS gearbox, i think, is a bit of a gem.

Hi I took my car back for the gearbox jumping out of fith gear and it did not jump out once! as I returned home - you have guessed ? it jumped out. but happily it has not done it since, so I am keeping my fingers crossed and hoping it wont do it again. thanks for the replies. Mike

had a similar problem on my last octavia (Mk1), not sure how common the linkage is but it was a dead simple cure. There is a threaded adjustment on the linkage rods and a wee tweek may be all it take to make sure it engages gear properly.

not wanting to sound rude but when is it "jumping out" of gear? Have you allowed enough time for the clutch to engage before putting into gear, or is it in gear befoer you bring the clutch back up?

My saxo done it sometime because I had not fully engaged the clutch (not total driver error the mat kept creeping up)

Or is it jumping out as you pull away?

Hi. Yes I know what you mean but I am fully pressing the clutch and when I release the clutch it some times jumps straight out of fifth, although it sometimes feels as though there is somthing stopping the gear from fully engaging but most of the time fifth gear positively engages just like all the rest of the gears. - cheers - Mike

Thanks I have had a look at the linkage but I do not know the settings or the method for adjusting! there is a handle on the linkage so that you can work the gear linkage from under the bonnet and when you try to put it into fifth there feels to be something inside the box stopping it going in properly - Mike

sounds like the same linkage as the Octavia, there will be two rods - one connecting the "sideways movement of the gearstick, the other the "fore & aft" movement. If you can find out which is which (watch the linkage as someone else works the gearlever) and try to adjust the "fore aft" movement.

there is a round black part over the threaded part of the linkage rod, you should be able to adjust with this, but make a note of the original position first so you can move it back if you need to .

Just try it a different settings to see if it goes into gear better, sorry for the non-technical terms!

Good luck with a fix.

I've had gearbox problems for the whole year I've owned the Fabia vRS, in my case it often won't go into second. Now got to the point where it's being inspected independently at my cost, then i'll hopefully get it fixed and take Skoda to court for the money. Won't ever buy another Skoda clown car again.
