LPG for Diesel

Featured Replies

Just had this email back about lpg conversions for diesels

Anybody on here already had the conversion on a diesel?

About the conversion:

The Multi-Fuel System (MFS) as installed by Alternative Motoring Solutions

Ltd is the economically realistic alternative fuel solution to reducing

vehicle emissions and cut fuel costs.

The MFS is a patented 'dual fuel' alternative fuel system that enables any

internal combustion engine to simultaneously combust a gaseous alternative

fuel with the existing use of diesel fuel to achieve 'near-zero' emission

levels with increased fuel economy and performance.

Systems are available for virtually any vehicle type; from sports cars to

performance cars to passenger cars to LDV's and HGV's, even small engine

devices such as lawn mowers and generators.

Decades of research and development have gone into the engineering of the

Multi-Fuel System to ensure consumer friendly operation and safety with

improved engine operation.

The MFS controller is installed in the engine compartment and uses solid

state electronic management to vaporise, treat, and control the LPG with

triple redundant safety controls.

Treated and vaporised LPG is injected into the engine's intake manifold,

homogeneously mixing with the engine's intake atmospheric air. Liquid fuel

is injected into the cylinder as it was before. Under the compression cycle,

the air mixed with the LPG heats to hotter temperatures due to the

alternative fuels higher 'heat of vaporisation'. This forces more of the

diesel to vaporise and volatilise giving a quicker and more spontaneous

combustion resulting in increased power without engine modification. The

power increases, in part, are due to the increase in volumetric efficiency

from the requirement for less oxygen (air) in the air/fuel/alternative fuel

mixture charge and maintains the engine's stoichometric (optimum fuel mix)

ratios. Although the alternative fuel should increase the temperature of

combustion of the fuel of the fuel mixture over the dedicated liquid fuel

combustion, this has not been measurable and is believed to be negligible.

Since the diesel is virtually vaporised and since combustion is more rapid

and complete there is one explosion, consuming the fuel and releasing its

energy. As there is no 'combustion wave' diesel knock is reduced. Since

there are no additional explosions of the combustion wave, excess heat is

not generated, reducing the formation of NOx and stress on the engine

cooling system. Cooling system temperatures remain as before, because of

thermostats, electronic cooling fans, etc. but engine oil temperatures are

reduced.

Additionally the properties of LPG dissolves carbon and tar deposits after a

period of operation improving the efficiency of the engine, this in turn

extends the life of the oil and reduces engine wear.

Benefits...

A gas tank of approximately 25-30% of the diesel tank capacity is all that

is required for 'combined' refuelling stops. Should you run out of LPG the

vehicle continues to run as a normal diesel without any intervention by the

driver. When the LPG is refilled the vehicle will automatically return to

its green, clean and cheaper state, saving an average of 20%-35% in fuel

costs.

There was an interesting article in Dieselcar a couple of years ago on this.

There was a tuned golf tdi running the dual fuel conversion and it was putting out appox 10% more power form memory with the LPG and diesel.
