Door card help, please (pulling hair out!)

Featured Replies

Trying to refit the driver's door card in my 03 Octy but getting all the bits in and keeping them there (like the door handle pull hook) is proving challenging ...

Any tips, tricks, hints out there?

It's just a handful mate, what I tend to do is hook the handle cable on, make sure the plastic nipple is pushed in secure and just support it as best you can as you reach over for the door pin led. It's fiddly clipping it in, when you've done that just drop the door onto the window runner, take a breather and then push it back in. You could try a something at bottom of door card propping it up, sort of lean it against you as you fiddle around. It's one if those things where you find the knack from doing it, as frustrating as it is!

Oh and try and hook mirror plugs etc on the edge of their holes or at least make sure they rest somewhere reachable. Do the small handle screw first in case it drops inside the door. At least then it should just fall out if you've not done all the card up.

Put the hook on the handle and the end of the cable into the back and hold it while keeping the door handle as if your trying to open the door always works for me

It is almost impossible if the door capping came away with door card. The strip that the glass slides against has to be put over the edge of the metal along the top edge of the door first. The door card then fits into its groove. Mine usually came off with the door card.

I usually used to put a long length of string around the plug for the armrest controls. Pass the string through the hole in the door card so you can retrieve the plug later.

MOST IMPORTANT: Operate the internal door handle to check it works before closing the door for the first time. If you have changed the lock, then also check the outside handle works.

p.s. Two hands and two knees plus one elbow are needed to put the card back!

Best tips...loads of patience....loads of endurance features...and luck....LOL

I use a log bungee strap looped and hooked through the door window opening at the top centre of the frame with the window wound down (sort of like a climbing carabiner).

I the use the other hook either in the hole where the window switch panel would live or looped round the handle on the other door trims.

This takes the weight of the trim, holds it roughly at the height you want to fit it at and allows it to move about while you hook on the lock cables and pass the looms and leds into the card.

Once you are good to go, just unhook the bungee and fit it onto the door strip fixing at the top of the door.

Some very elaborate but no doubt useful methods here, perhaps I should've been a juggler...Crusty jugglers...

Thanks all for the input; bungee tip is a good one.

I'll let you know how we (my wife Pat is now the expert) get on.
