Air felt coming from ventilation slots even when closed?

Featured Replies

Can someone test this please?

Seems odd but with the air con on and all ventilation slots fully closed (ie turn the wheel until it clicks) I can still feel slight air coming through the vents. More so from the centre two and less so on the outer two. Surely not normal? When the vents are closed, it should be just that, shouldn't it? Never experienced it in my Mark II.

Thanks

From my experience of HVAC units air will still come through as the flaps don't form an air tight seal. It's a piece of plastic with a rubber seal bonded to it during the manufacturering process.

So if the ducting has a slightly different shape to the rubber on the flap then there will be a tiny hole for air to come through

Thanks.

Anyone else have the same issue?

Its normal. Closing the vents alone wont completely block fresh air coming in.

If you have two zone climatronic you'll find even when off you can turn on recirc mode which achieves total block-off, just resets when the ignition is turned off.

You'll also find if you turn off climatronic whilst its set to deliver any level of heat that warm air will come through the vents, this is again normal...to stop it you have to turn the temp to LO before switching it off. Also turning on recirc will stop it too.

On a Mk2 facelift with 2 zone you couldnt turn on recirc when it was off so a definite improvement on Mk3
