On a cleaning blitz this weekend I noticed what looked like oil around the rod gland seal on one of my tailgate dampers. Still works OK and the tailgate stays up, but I thought they were gas filled struts? 6months old & only 6k miles so shouldn't be leaking either way.

Have wiped it clean and will check again in a week or two. Normally if the gas leaks there's not enough grunt left to hold the tailgate up.

Could any of the resident Skodexperts confirm if they are gas or oil damped plse?

Had ours replaced on both cars. Superted has had his replaced once and then one of them a second time.

5 minute job.

I did a few of them under warranty when I worked at a dealer.

So if it is covered under warranty still , go get it done.

Just had both of mine replaced under warranty, they were pretty bad, would not hold the tailgate open unless you lifted it almost to fully open

Twas well oily, not just the normal lube witness mark - had to wipe it off the main body of the strut where it was running down.
