would a worn cv joint affect handling?

Featured Replies

My steering doesnt feel as it should. On long sweeping bends i feel i need to lift of when lesser cars eg a basic insignia the other day i was behind appeared to be gaining speed.i have noticed a dronning noise comming from my offside front when turning sharp left. Could this be the cv joint? And would this explain my poor handling?

Silly question,maybe,but.......have you checked your tyre pressures ?

I don't think handling would be materially affected by CV joints as they do not affect geometry. Droning on cornering might also be caused by wheel bearings but these would have only a small effect on handling. More likely I would think that you have two problems; one causing the droning which could be CV joints as you say but I would suspect the wheel bearing and another causing poor handling for which I would look at play in any bushes but particularly the rear console bushes. It is not improbable that the two problems might become noticeable at similar mileage.

Yeah tyres are fine. Personally i think its the bushes. How many are there that affect handling? Console bushes, anti roll bar bushes. Anythin else? Do octys suffer bush problems like fabias do? Mine went in my fabia and the difference when i had them replaced was unbeleavable

I've noticed my handling get worse in recent weeks, it feels very vague now and there is some play in the steering wheel. It certainly does not inspire the confidence in cornering it once used to.

I'm suspecting bushes as well but not unreasonable to replace them at nearly 6 years old. Having said that, it did have a new set of console bushes at about 20,000 miles and just over a year old when I first got it, now at 97,000.

Will book it in to get checked out.
