Air bag light

Featured Replies

Hi, I need help on finding where this sensor is.

This showed up on lap top screen when we tried to find the problem

I had a airbag light on the dash. The code was 1221 -

01221 - Crash Sensor Side Airbag; Driver Side (G179)

011 - Open Circuit - MIL ON

01221 - Crash Sensor Side Airbag; Driver Side (G179)

012 - Electrical Fault in Circuit - Intermittent

I wondered whether it was the sensor or the wiring.

Thanks in return

well 1) - its deffo the drivers side!

2) - open circuit

You slide the set, it sets it off

In my last car I unplugged all the connectors under the seat, sprayed the contact with switch contact cleaner and reconnected them, 1 trip the dealer (and £32 worse off) click/click, job done, sometimes/some cars they self reset...

Not heard of a Superb suffering with the problem but Octavia’s suffer with the seat airbag plugs.

sometimes/some cars they self reset...

Unfortunately all VAG cars require VCDS etc to turn the airbag light off.

Dont worry about the sensor, look under the seat for connections, uncouple the battery first, part the connections, spray the contacts, reconnect, but it sounds like you need a VAG scanner to reset the light

I've seen similar in a MK 2 Octavia.  The crash sensor was located in the drivers door and the wiring to it was broken at the yellow plug where it came out of the A post.  It may be worth a quick check there.

Sorted. Broken wire in the door connecting cable !!!!!!!!!!!!!

No more lights

£100 dealers bill avoided

Glad you fixed it. I have the same problem at the moment, so will check the door wiring. When you fixed the wire did the warning light go out, or did it have to be reset?

Cheers

Just taken mine to the local auto electrician - same fault code as OP - 01221 - Crash Sensor Side Airbag; Driver Side (G179) . It was a broken wire in the wiring loom where it passes through the driver's door hinge. I'm getting a new loom fitted as they reckon more wires could break soon.

Cheers

I think I have the same problem. In fact I own up I did it rewiring my door speakers.

So I've got the same error. I'm pretty sure I may have damaged a wire in A frame. DOH!

Anyone know what colour the wire is for crash sensor at plug. Thank you

2010 superb
