I know I am just being lazy but I have a 59 plate Octavia 1.9 tdi and its just on the crossover from 255 mm discs to 253mm, does anyone know if the ID plate will give disc size info or will I have to remove a wheel to measure?

You should have a list of PR codes in the front of the service book, one of these usually gives the type of rear brakes fitted which you can match up to the discs on ECP.  Mine are 1KF.
